How long before your Monster BRUISER died out?
« on: April 20, 2005, 03:10:57 PM »
For people that have this ball... how long did it take before the ball finally gave up?

I know Brunswick stuff is usually more durable than most other companies... so how does this ball compare to other people's stuff?

And how strong was the ball?

PK18 dies? Like a fine wine, it only improves with age... ask LAW.

What is so good about the PK18 that's on balls like the Bruiser? I'm not bashing, I'm just wondering why so many people like this coverstock?

I know nothing about Brunswick, so I'd like to know a little more about this ball and the PK18 coverstock?

Does it suck in oil at a slower rate? Or is it least likely to track up than other balls normaly do?

I've always heard that Brunswick balls are more durable - so what does that mean exactly? That they live longer... or that they don't track up as bad and as quick?

Versatility for one... The cover can be shined or dulled with great results.

Longetivity... How many original Danger Zones do you still see out there? I see them all the time, have fun getting that ball away from that person! I've seen some that are about 10yrs old, and still highly praised by them.

Tracking really depends on the house you bowl at, not so much the cover. Sorry for those that bowl at Guardian houses.

True. But it just seems that after using a ball so long that it would slack off a little and start to loose carry percentage?

All resin balls shed performance over the years, PK18 is just easy to maintain and is most durable. Not sure, but it may be the most used coverstock since the introduction. Even now, the Inferno line is based off PK18, so it must be doing something right!

PK 18 = Inferno.

Hmmm, Activator on Inferno sure looks slower on its move off the dry?

I've thrown 3 different original Infernos and the only one that was "slow off the dry" was the one I had with a 2 1/2 pin to PAP placement.  The others accelerated on the backend and made a very strong/sharp move out of the dry.

Most coverstocks will last a long time as long as you maintain your equipment well.  I had an Attitude III(Powerkoil 18 Pearl) with at least 1000 games on it, 2 plug jobs, and only 1 resurfacing and it reacted the same since the day I got it for 4 years until I got rid of it.  I'm one for saying coverstock longevity lasts as long as the bowler wants it to last.  You gotta take care of your equipment and do routine cleaning.

Don't know yet, I just reecieved a slightly used one. However... my monster Frenzy, (N'control coverstock) has lost a little of it's punch. But I have put roughly 1000 games on it, and it has never been cleaned/resurfaced.
(I'm much kinder to my newer equipment: AI,UI,Bruiser...) Good luck with yours!

I can't comment on durability since I've rarely used mine (never enough oil) but the times i did, i loved that ball.  It's really versatile.  For me, with my speciall drilling (Pin about .5" above grip center, with no weighthole) it's super smooth.  I just love its reaction.

From my experience PK 18 dies, but it responds about the best of any resin to the hot water treatment.

Very very true. I would say the second nicest part about PK18 next to its versatility is the fact it gives up its oil easily. Just a little bit of encouragement (Dishwasher, sunlight, hot water) & in short order it's back to new.
