Well it came in today and Im going in at noon tomorrow to get it drilled.. I know the driller will watch me throw a few balls and mark my track lines and go from there, but I did have another question..

Since its a matte ball and from what I have heard starts Turning a little quicker , for more of an arc roll, Now will I want to drill this pin up to get the best of both worlds, using the balls natural matte cover then add a little more hook on the backend? Or would it benefit me more to drill pin down for just a quicker spinning more arc roll?

A lot of that depends on your rev rate, speed & axis tilt. since this is a matte surface ball and because Big B's known for getting into an early roll in the mid-lanes, you should consider how the lanes are conditioned at the house where you bowl most frequently. If this is a ball for tournament or sport shot leagues, I'd look for a pin below fingers layout.

I wouldn't let the matte finish concern you too much. IME even in box finish the Diamondback is plenty clean through the front part of the lane. With this finish, I can play anywhere from the ball track to fifth arrow without the ball burning too early on me.

is that just because tourney conditions are quite a bit more oil, which in that case a pin down would help me more right off the bat rolling sooner and grabbing the lane a bit more before it hits friction?

I have to echo Ray here. I have a higher rev rate and I don't have problems geting the ball threw the front part of the lane. You will be happy with this ball. It is very good for the money.

Ill have to ask the guy at the pro shop how they oil their lanes, because I have been asked that quite a few times and dont know .. Im assuming all it is, is Length, and how much oil is used ( in units ) ?

And also since your here, How does the diamondback react in hesvy oil? Wondering this because Im just getting into leauges again, and there is one starting this summer that uses tourney patterns, I think it uses a different one every 2-3 weeks.. So How well does it handle heavy/tourney patterns compared to a 3.5 or a evil siege..?

For me, the Diamondback can handle oilier mediums, but not heavier volumes. I use my Diamondback on conditions where the Siege and 3.5 are burning up too much, but on which the Evil Siege is pushing too far.

How much stronger or different is this ball from the Sidewinder? I know they have the same core, with a different cover stock and prep. Would they complement each other well, or are they fairly close in reaction?

I do not think the Sidewineder and Diamondback are very similar. They use different covers. SW was I believe PK18 and DB is Acivator. the Activator is cleaner at least for me it is. The Diamonback is extremely versitle with different surfaces. I did not think the same with the Sidewinder. I could only use mine on certain patterns and that was about it. The two could compliment each other. I think you would be better off with like a Python or Rattler to compliment the Sidewinder better. All three mentioned balls will be stronger but cleaner. If you are looking at something to go to when the Sidewinder hooks to much look into the Avalance Pearl or even the new SlingShot that comes out at the end of this month.

The Slingshot definitely looks like it will be a good light to medium oil ball, and certainly will be a good value for the price.

I have my Sidewinder lightly polished up from the box finish. I did that primarily to try to stay right a little bit, especially when the lanes get over/under. Sometimes that works, sometimes not.

I was asking about the Diamondback as a step up, looking for more hook than the box finish of the Sidewinder, with a similar hook shape.

Tan, You will get a similar motion but more length. The diamondback doesn't flip and is smooth ever woth a coat of polish. Don't get me wrong though, this ball doesn't quit either. The ball rolls heavy. This would be a good piece to put above the Sidewinder. As I said... Great ball for the money.
