Impulse Zone
« on: December 17, 2005, 01:54:12 AM »
I recently got and Impulse Zone from Marshmallow Fluff. The pin is under the ring finger, and cg is below that and right slightly from center of palm. How much oil could this ball handle with a stacked drilling and coverstock change? Just wanted some feedback with other guys experiences with this ball.

IME the Impulse is a lot like the Eliminator in that oily-medium is about the best I've been able to get out of it, even with a scuffed cover.

You *could* go with a drilling with a stronger PSA to try to get it to open up the midlane more, but I wouldn't hold out much hope of being able to use the Impulse on a longer, flatter pattern with a lot of volume.

Brian, if you sand it to 800 or 1000 it will handle the heavier side of medium. Currently polished, it likes clean backends and hates carrydown. I liked it sanded alittle much better.

Like I said, drill out the thumb and try it before plugging and redrilling. You might like it.

The ball is not now or never was a heavy oil ball.  It is not a long oil ball at all.  Even if you have a duller surface it needs time in the dry area to get going after a year of use.  This ball was a lot better out of the box, but even with regular cleaning and a little light Scotch Brite touchup is just doesn't have nearly what it had new.  Kind of disappointing because I thought the Activator coverstock would last longer, but the particle addition must have something to do with that.  I am trying a heat type oil extraction today to see if that helps.

Best shot for me was to play a straighter shot from just inside the oil line to just outside at around the end of the pattern.  This ball revs up something fierce compared to my XXX, Eraser Blaze, and Killer Instinct but now if I don't give it a chance to hit some dry it is still revving through the pins.  Yours
sounds like a layout very close to mine.  That help?

Tried the heat type oil extraction.  Oil came out of the ball for over two hours.  Threw the ball and it still didn't have the pop on the end it used to have.  One more try, will get it resurfaced with a Haus machine so the diamond cutters can hopefully break up the old particles and get some fresh ones to the surface.

The ball still works OK but just a lot different from the new condition when it was impressive on the back end.

I played it on a PBA 43 foot pattern last night for a little while (still with some polish on it) and it was pretty much useless.  You had to execute flawlessly to keep it in the hole and when it got there it left weak tens.  Killer Instinct was better as it had a little sooner move and pop on the back so the pocket was effectively bigger.  Threw my friends The One and all I can say is that will be my next ball when I can afford it!

I think it may be possible that your impulse is not polished enough,I found with mine when i didn,t bring it back to as high of a polish that it came out of the box in it would flare to much to early, loose energy  and hit weak, polished back up and it was strong on the backend again.
