Input on Melee Cross please.
« on: December 07, 2015, 08:25:02 AM »
I've stayed away from Big B for many years, but the core on the Melee series is exactly what I'm looking for, with the possible exception of my history with tall cores, which I perceive this line to have. They tend to lope for me and not rev quickly enough.
Looking for input... the closeout price is almost too attractive to pass up, but maybe I should go for the Hook instead?

Bottom line, for a low rev lefty on medium, would the Cross be a contender?

Thanks in advance

You will be very happy with the cross. It is very smooth and absolutely predictable. I am also lower revs and speed the cross is great for me on the mediums. If you want to be able to open up the lanes look at the jab. Fantastic ball on anything from light to fresh.

I have all cross, jab, and OG Melee and love all three. I'd get the hook but don't know if I ever see enough oil for it. The cross is plenty for me.

I just picked one up on closeout. I'm not a 'Big B' fan for many business reasons, but the price was too discounted to pass up.

The specs say this is an incredible benchmark ball. I like predicatable even rolling equipment, and this piece fits the bill. I'll be getting mine drilled up tomorrow.

I think you will be happy. I went pin under on mine. This is neither a big hook ball nor early rolling, so don't be afraid to put an aggressive drill on it. It has that classic Brunswick rolly shape.

My cross is a perfect benchmark. Hope you enjoy it!

It's not the best in the Melee line, but it's a very good benchmark ball. Even in box finish, should get down lane good (mine is pin down as well and doesn't check as early as I thought it would). Dull or shiny, it will have a good predictable move.

Brunswick has really made strides in the last few years with ball motion and this is a great example.

Like others said, its smooth and predictable on a variety of conditions.  As long as you are seeing some head oil in your neck of the woods you will like this one.

The Cross ranks underneath both the Jab and original for me, but it is still a really nice ball. I tend to like the Cross when I'm bowling on tougher patterns where control and predictability are the key. As such, I don't use it nearly as much on house shots as I do on the tough stuff. Still, it's a very nice, even, predictable piece. Personally, I think that you can make a fantastic arsenal just out of Melee-line balls.

I agree, and that's what I've done.  Of course, I just love the LT-48 so much that half the time that's all I use lol.

this ball is very smooth off the spot. at the price point on closeout there is no way you should pass on this ball. i bought another after i threw for the first time. also drilled pin under. you wont be dissapointed

Thanks to all for the input. I ordered it, arriving Wednesday. Too good to pass up at the closeout price, but I'm a bit concerned that it will overlap other balls in the bag. I went with a pin left of ring drill (lefty) to try and make it a little more aggressive... I'll report back.
