Intense Inferno status
« on: March 08, 2005, 04:53:24 AM »
Mine was originally drilled 4x5, pin next to ring finger because the ball was so new and no reviews gave me a good idea of how to treat this ball and what to expect. Inbox condiiton I found it best for a semi-direct ball path (11/12 T arrows out to 6/7 at breakpoint, 45-47 feet down lane) on medium to medium-heavy oil patterns. However my main league was medium-light on old wood lanes. There it was far too powerful with this drilling. So I sanded it to 2000 grit and re-polished with Brunswick High gloss polish. This way it was OK, but not ideal. Still too much hook and only good midway thru the 2nd game of league.

I put it aside and had it redrilled. Took a lot longer than I thought due to the snow and some personal situations. Anyway, I just got it back last week. I place the pin over the ring finger, kicked the CG out, 3" to PAP. pin-CG distance is 3 1/4"; weight hole 5" over to make it legal. (5"x3" drilling)

Tried it Thursday on league's medium-light oil on wood lanes and today on medium oil on Brunswick's Anvil Lanes. Tried normal release, stroker release, normal release with much less rotational angle. The better situation has and continues to be with medium to medium-heavy oil. This allows me to play more direct than I normally do,.

Even with this new drilling AND the surface back to standard (400 grit + high gloss polish), ball's hitting power is still VERY strong (ask FBM357 and hotwire13; we three practiced together today). With higher ball speeds it goes straighter, but still strong backend. Can't even imagine using an original. WOuld need SIGNIFICANTLY more oil to use an Absolute or lots of polish

I cannot understand people talking about the inconsistency of this ball and can hardly understand Brunswick's claim of using thi sball on lighter oils. The ball remains amazing and very strong. It's still as hard a hitting ball as I own and can throw.

charlest,
We are exactly in the same boat.
Mine is drilled 4X5 also, no hole, box condition. I've really no idea about the "light oil" being referred by some of the posters which Intense will match up well.

For me, Intense can handle almost as much oil as the Original with a different look. Longer and sharper.

Truthfully, I don't know how it came to be labeled as a lighter oil ball, when even on brunswicks reaction chart, it's a 120/175, while the inferno is a 115.  Odd stuff.  Maybe the core turned out much weaker than they thought, when paired with Activator plus??

charlest,

without a doubt, the ball highly underrated.  I was looking at mine and decided to leave it at the last minute .  Anyways, I've 2 of them, one polished and the other, believe it or not, is somewhat dull.  Both seem quite aggressive (dull more so in oil).  Even with some loft to bypass the heads a little, it's still very strong.

Majority of the posts concerning this ball is it's 'condition specific'.  One of mine (dull) is drilled pin right of ring with cg slightly right of palm.  The other (high polish) is pin above finger with cg out about an 1"+ right of palm.

Have mine drilled 5 x 4 with the pin above my ring finger. Ball is 40ft of skid and 20ft of snap! Can play this ball on medium - medium heavy oil. Especially good when the head oil starts to leave and mild carrydown is forming mid lane.

Ball is definitely stronger than my OI by about 2-4 boards and goes about 3-4 ft longer. Devastating carry at the pocket!!

That's partly why I kicked my CG out further, when I re-drilled it: 5x3. On today's oil it wasn't flippy at all. But it was medium oil. My AU79 with a similar drilling, handled the same oil with larger hook and more backend. Both hit VERY hard in a slightly different manner.

Devastating is a good word for its hitting power; hits as hard as my Legends balls and that's saying a lot. (FBM357 and hotwire13 can vouch for that.)

OB is good for Med or Med Heavy but if you take it too 1000 or 4000 on abrasion pad then polish it then it will be good on Mid / light.

Honestly I got a lot of balls. Not kidding.
