Is The Versa-Max Discontinued?
« on: April 15, 2013, 04:40:25 PM »
I noticed that Buddies no longer shows the Versa-Max on their web site.

Has the Versa-Max been discontinued?

More than likely, all the others in the line are gone.

Currently my favorite ball. First ball out of my bag.

I am going to give some thought about purchasing another, unless there is another ball out there similar in performance in the Brunswick or DV8 line-up. This ball is so versatile for me on a wide range of conditions ranging from medium-light oil to medium-heavy oil plus it is one of the best balls I have ever had for getting thru the heads so clean and saving all of it's energy for the back-end. All it needs is the slightest smell of a bit of dry to make it's move.

I might add here that today I practiced 4 games. I threw my Meanstreak and Ebonite Gamebreaker and the lanes were so messed up that both balls slid thru the break-point and hardly making a move to the pocket, shooting 130-143 with those 2 balls. I then got out the Versa-Max and shot 208 and 213 and it is the only ball that would move on the back end even though it wasn't as strong off the spot as it normally is. Just trying to say here how versatile that ball is.

If the Versa-Max is discontinued, I am surprised that someone hasn't had some at a discounted price like many of the other balls thay have had at discounted prices when they were discounted.

Versa max gives a very unique look that was great for me.  If you cant find one, try the IQ Tour solid.  Very similar roll pattern that faces up flush much the same as the Versa.

I am really a Brunswick guy at the moment, but if worse came to worse and I wanted to buy a spare or another one to drill now, and couldn't find one, I would look at the IQ Tour. Right now I have to decide if I want to buy a spare or not. Notsohotshot said he might be able to get a Versa-Max if I want another.

I am wondering if DV8 has a ball similar to the Versq-Max.

Wow I am sorry to hear that.  Have to say it's the best ball I've ever owned by any manufacturer.  Every bit as versatile as the name implies.

I'm guessing sales was not as good as predicted. It lasted a while, longer than average but not very long in the grand scheme of things. Problem with a medium hooking ball like this is that most ego-centric bowlers can't stand NOT to cover 40 boards and think that makes them a "man". Another problem might have been that, although it had  strong backend, it didn't give you that sudden skid/flip look that people thought made them look "macho", while leaving washouts and splits, but struck every 5th or 6th frame.

Its "problem" was it just struck and carried well. That's not impressive enough for many people. fools!

While the versamax was good on house patterns, I think it really showed its value most on flatter tournament patterns.
