Is there a different Black tape these days?
« on: December 30, 2008, 09:37:18 AM »
i recently ordered 100 pieces of Brunswick 1 in. black tape. I have used this tape for a while. I have always got a tape that was thick, somewhat firm, and truely altered your thumbhole the way tape should. I think it is a defect or something.

The tape that I got which for some reason had Brunswick KR Strikeforce in bigger letters going down the roll of tape. The tape itself was thin, highly flexible, and doesn't seem to stick very well. It is so thin it doesn't alter your thumbhole at all, much like Valentino's Franken tape.

I have never seen this tape from brunswick and I wasn't pleased when this showed up to my door, it is worthless. I have emailed them twice and they all they say is that it shouold be like the typical brunswick tape they have always sold. They said I could send it back, but would have to pay shipping and insurance for it, probably a restocking fee, but I have used 1 piece which came out mid game because of lack of adherence. By the time I do all that I will probably pay over half of whatI payed for the stuff.

A good place like buddies would probably send me a new roll free of charge if this took place, won't be doing business with bowlingball.com anymore.

Anyone seen this tape from brunswick

Ebonite's Black Tape seems to be the thickest, firmest black tape I've used.

AMF Bowler's Tape is just like the stuff you are describing (except it adheres a little better).

So unless Ebonite has changed their tape recently, that tape is awesome.

Ebonite black tape is thick now, used to like when it was thin myself so that is an option for you wanting a thick tape.

I would go directly to K/R and ask them. It sounds as if this may be older tape that they had and are getting rid of-BowlingBall.com that is.

It wears its pants lower, is more disrespectful of its elders, and smokes crack.

ANy tape I have tried that wasn''t bowling tape, seemed to always leave a lot of sticky residue that I don't want to have to clean out everytime I take a piece out

Exactly.  There's a reason I don't just go putting pieces of standard electrical tape in my thumbholes -- you ever try to take electrical tape off something?  Tons and tons of gooey, gummy mess get left behind.  Not to mention cool rockin daddy has just apparently decided to be a pain in this forum's azz for the past few weeks -- I haven't seen him post anything but negative stuff lately.

Not that CRD ever has anything useful to post, but...

I'll have to look for the 3M tape.  I don't have an ACE near me but all the ones where I lived last were all old run down shacks that had nothing but 10 year old merchandise.  After watching their commercials, I always wanted to send a picture of the local store to their customer service center.  Electrical tape does stink.  If you change the tape out that night, the residue isn't too bad to remove.  But if it's there for a while, it's a nightmare.  As a bowler, I shouldn't need to carry a bottle of acetone (works much better than isopropanol) and spend 3 minutes just trying to get the goo out of the hole.  The rounded edge on the precut tape also makes it much less likely to catch the edge and roll up, making replacement less necessary.  Oh wait, I forgot, I don't even use black take anymore.  I did hate the Ebonite tape when I had it.  Maybe it was just my batch, but they used way too much adhesive.  Even if it was in place for a few minutes, it was a bear to take out.  It would constantly tear so you kept removing small strips and chunks.

Yeah, which is why I keep a small bottle of lighter fluid at home.  Takes the goo right off.

When I'm taking a piece of tape out of my thumbhole in the middle of the 10th frame, I don't want to take the time to go get some lighter fluid and rinse out my thumbhole.  I'm just sayin'...

Hi,
On the topic of alternative tape. I was given a tip from a touring pro to try and use Scotch Decorate & repair tape. I gave it a try and the stuff is awesome. It is thin but, the texture provides enough friction to hold your thumb in place during the swing. but, at release you come off this stuff very clean. I usually use a standard piece of 3/4 in the front of the hole and a piece or two of this Decoreate & repair tape in the back. If you are interested, I have found this stuff at WallMart in the section where the paints and stuff is. It comes in a package of five rolls, each a different color, for just a couple of bucks. I shared this with a couple of local guys and they all feel the same way...simply awesome. This stuff does not leave any residue in the thumb hole like electrical tape does.

Lane Hammer, I know you what you're talking about now.  I just bought some from my Pro Shop and it sucks!  It's all thin and limp.  I mean it will work the same, but it's hard to get in the hole.

Irritating!
