Recently it hit me that, other than Lane #1 and MoRich stuff, the last Brunswick ball I bought for myself was a Johnny Petraglia Pro Zone signature ball about a decade ago (although my wife has done well with a Rampage).

So I've got a 16-pound Sidewinder coming, 2-3 inch pin, 3 oz top, and I'm trying to get the ball to mimic the reaction of some of the Lane #1 gear I like so much. Specifically, smooth and heavy rolling, more midlane than backend.

Is this ball good for that? I figured with it being a particle ball, it probably would be. I'm considering drilling it 5x3 or close to that, with the pin either just over or under the middle finger. I typically see drier-than-medium volume on my league so I really don't need this ball drilled in a way that it will try to do tricks.

Suggestions/opinions welcome.

Jess

MY first thought was that ths would be really snappy, but after reading the reviews, it might be exactly what you are looking for.

It looks like a low load particle hybrid ball and has gotten pretty good reviews.

Let us know how you like it as these are a bargin on ebay now..

Keep looking... I'm sure there's a 300 in one of those balls you keep buying!!

Just got it today. Spent no less than 5 minutes trying to find the d*mned CG mark. Best thing about an Ebonite ball is that bull's eye they draw on them, and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if all companies adopted that.

Anyway, there's a particle version and a reactive version of this ball, from what I'm told. I do believe I've got the particle. Didn't come as shiny as I expected -- surface looks/feels like the Lane #1 Tsunami H20 (with different colors, of course) or maybe Track's old Arsenal Angular. Both those balls have been very good to me on league shots.

I'll drill it up over the weekend and try it out next week. As you noted, this was an eBay ball -- can't beat the deal for $68 shipped.

Jess,

It's got a VERY LOW particle load with part solid, part pearl reactive, cover. For smooth and heavy rolling I'd leave any "glossy" shine off at first. I noticed that some of these were more shiny than others, too.

With your lower track (PAP 4> 3/8^) I'd probably drill it pin down, too. This will also smooth out back end reaction somewhat. This ball might also be good drilled Rico. Reaction-wise it is very close to my Absolute Inferno. Good luck with it. A very under-rated ball.

I second the rico drill, good idea
as well a knocking down that cover...mine was too shiny oob. I changed my sidewinder to a new 2000 abby pad.

I track very high and I drilled it 5x5, pin under bridge with a 1/2oz thumb weight. This is by far the smoothest rolling ball I currently have in my bag, and more than most balls, it does what you want it to. A minor hand adjustment works wonders.

If nothing else, this ball really smoothes out the over/under of a broken down house shot. It carries well and is my favorite Big B, with exception to the Danger Zone!!

Just went out and tested it tonight. I already have a couple of balls with Rico drills on them so I decided to go the other way with this one -- drilled it 5x5.5 with the CG ending up left and below of the middle finger, so it kind of looks like a lefty-drilled ball at first (pin is over and between the middle finger and the bridge).

It starts up a lot earlier than I thought it would, probably due to the particle in the surface. I tested this after leagues were through so the shot was pretty banged up.

It may start up early, but it really lays off nice down the lane. This will allow me to control the breakpoint quite easily, a good thing in this house given how wild it can get sometimes.

I may need to polish it up a little in order to get it to clear the fronts better, but overall, I like the look I get from this. It's different than anything else I have in the bag right now.
