Total Inferno suggestions
« on: December 18, 2007, 01:58:51 PM »
I have a friend who just bought a Total Inferno.  He wants it drilled for a strong early motion for heavier lane condition.  Using Mo's dual angle technique what would you choose for your drill angle and angle to val.  He's matched up pretty even with speed and revs, his PAP is 4 and 3/4" X 1/4 up.  I was thinking of doing a 60* drill angle 3 3/8" or 4" from PAP with a 45* angle to val.  Should I lower the drill angle to something like 45* and then 45* angle to val?  I really want this to be perfect for him, he's done a lot to help my game over the years, this is why I'm branching out for ideas.

How would you judge his speed? High low?
Revs? High or low?

Alright, well if he wants it to rev early, obviously you want your drilling angle to be lower, lets say between 20-40, id say 30 would do fine. Making it too low might cause it roll out, 30 would be a decent median.

Next is the breakpoint, or your pin to pap distance. If you went with 4 inches like you said, it would give it a moderate flare with a late break point. Is this what he wants? If wants an early break point, make it between 2-3 inches.

For the Angle to the VAL, its hard to tell without seeing him throw it. But I would say a lower number here would be good, so it revs quickly. If it revs to late, with his ball speed it might go right past the break point. So again, id say  30 or 40.

Verdict: 30 drill angle - 3inches from pin to pap - and a 35 degree from the pap to the VAL.

I was just afriad of selecting two angles that were too low.  I didn't want it to roll out on him  Sounds good, I'll keep this in mind.  Thanks!!

I had the problem, I drilled one 10/20 with a pin to pap of 4 inches. But I had a lower ball speed which caused it to roll out. Im thinking since his ball speed is higher, it could work.

ok what if he was closer to the 16-17 mph zone?  should I raise the drill angle and angle to the val, or just one, if one which one?

I just thought I'd throw in my tuppence. I've got a total inferno drilled for the kind of pattern you're talking about.
I've got it 45 degree PAP-pin-CG and I think it's between 45 and 60 degrees PAP-pin-VAL, if I was pushed I would say it's closer to 60 than 45 but I'm not certain. Rolls very early and gives a nice reaction on Shark-type conditions, never tried it on anything shorter than about 40 ft, but might do it with a polish, I have mine box finish.

I just wanted to say thank you to Chaos for your help.  My friend is thrilled with the layout.  It's a reaction he's been missing in his bag!!!   Thanks again
