I really hate this ball. It's still in my bag and still bring it to league. The odd thing about this ball is how terrific it is on the right condition and the right mood. Last week gambled and thought I had a good look. Usually this ball would only shine playing outside on short patterns but this time it was pretty tight so I played outside but more direct towards the pocket. My results were hitting the pocket but leaving 7's or 10's nearly every ball.
The layout on this ball is weak which I like. I don't have a ton of revs but decent revs. I like the ball to store energy down the lane no matter what the condition or ball is. So I got it drilled like most of my other balls...around 5" to the pap but the fingers above the pin. The cg is kicked to the right but there the distance from the pin to pap is only 1.5 inches.
I tried different surface preps on it. I thought the box condition was horrible. It reved up nice but did nothing down the lane if I couldn't find any friction. Took off the polish with a green scotch brite pad and polished it by hand. Then ran into a short pattern at league. Stood right and played near the ditch and shot well over 700. That was 6 months ago and haven't had anything to gloat about since. Recently tried 1000 abarlon and it was even more inconsistent then before. Polished by hand and it was better.
The overall reaction though is horrible. If anything it is a good light oil condition ball but hooks way too much on dry lanes if you have hand. Hits a little too much oil it hydroplanes. If I had to drill it over again I would drill it for a left hander and then throw it. That way it wouldn't do much of anything but at least I could get some consistency out of it. Really disppointed with this ball. This was my first Brunswick ball in 10 years and this ball really turned me off. Everyone I have seen that has thrown this ball has hated it. This includes a 220 average bowler I know could make a house ball look good and he struggled to shoot 500 when he had it. He also took the polish off and still hated it. I knew another good bowler that had one and could never do the same thing twice with it.
I have seen all the other infernos and they are great to good . Great being the Ultimate, Original and Absolute. Good being the Raging, Scorchin and Blazin. WTF were they thinking when they made this piece of garbage?
