Title: Just imagine this....
Post by: a_ak57 on February 13, 2004, 04:12:45 AM
Ok here it is for a crazy ball.  Just imagine, Original Inferno core, with a dull solid particle Activator cover, sanded to about 800 grit.  I can imagine that a ball like would only work on truly flooded conditions, unless you have a shot like Palermaa's spare shot (30 mph)!

Even polished, that thing would kick some major As$!

The Ultimate Inferno is pretty close;  the cover is stronger than the reactive on the original Inferno.

I thought the Ultimate is just a dull 800 grit Inferno?  Or is the Inferno pearl, and the Ultimate solid?

Even still, a real particle/particle pearl variant of the inferno would be amazing.

I don't want to kick up the old solid/pearl argument again, so I'll just say that the Ultimate uses a different formulation of the Activator cover that is more aggressive.  With the same surface prep, the Ultimate is supposed to be about three to five boards stronger overall than the original Inferno.  I'll be able to tell you more next week, when I get a chance to throw the two side by side.

There is the Raging Inferno, but it does have a higher RG.  IMO, still a very nice ball, though.

It's possible that Brunswick will come out with one more Inferno, but from what I hear, it is highly unlikely that it'll be a higher-load particle.

That seems to be a good way to put it about the Ultimate.

If they do make another, it might be just a solid Raging or something along those lines.  Oh well, it'd still be a good ball as long as it's Activator.

Talked to a Brunswick rep at the US Open last Sunday in Anaheim, and the Ultimate will be the last Inferno.  Also the rumors are true, Smash/R will be discontinued in May, Swamp Monster also I assume.

You may be right, but I heard recently that Brunswick hasn't made a final decision on this yet.  I think it will depend on how well the Ultimate sells, how it ends up fitting with the other Infernos, and what (if anything) the new high-end release will be for the Mini-Eliminator in July.

You are correct, if my sources are accurate.  However, there should be a mid-price replacement for the Swamp later in the year.
