Lineup help, Mastermind, Genius v. Fusion, Fortera? Lt 48.
« on: June 06, 2014, 01:06:45 PM »
I have a Mastermind, and have a NIB Fusion that I will drill this weekend. I also have an Lt 48 that I would like to play behind the Fusion.

I love the Mastermind (had ten in a row with it Monday night first game) and planned to drill the fusion to play between the Mastermind and the Lt 48. I am wondering if I should get a Genius and hold off on drilling the Fusion, since I have had so much success with the Mastermind. Or, drill the Fusion, get the Fortera, and set it up to play after the Fusion and before the Lt 48.

Can anyone tell me how the Genius and Fusion compare.

Any thoughts about this lineup----Mastermind, Fusion, Genius or Fortera, Lt 48.

Thanks

CC

That is a ton of equipment for someone who averages under 200 (if your profile is correct)

Pick up a spare ball! :)

Yep. I stink. I have had lessons from a Bronze level coach. I still stink. But, I enjoy the game, and have my bright moments.

I have  a spare ball (white dot), but failed to mention it.

Thanks,

CC

if you a ranking those in the line of strength the fortera is going to be in front of the mastermind from what I have seen. The fortera is also asymmetrical if you don't have a consistent release  you may struggle with it.

That is interersting. I would have thought that it would be weaker, cleaner through the front and more angular in the back. I was hoping that the pearl additive would allow me to go to it when the Mastermind and Fusion are burning to much energy and leaving flat tens, or not finishing from inside and leaving

Ccrider from what I'm seeing the exile gets farther down lane before reading but I would say its 3-4 boards stronger than the mastermind

I would suggest getting the Mastermind Genius to compliment your Mastermind. They have the same core, but different motions because of the coverstock. Also, both of these balls take well to surface changes to dial in a good reaction. When the Mastermind is hooking too much, the Mastermind Genius will get further down the lane but still have a stronger backend motion.

The Fortera Exile has a skid / flip reaction and would be closer motion to the IQ Fusion.

From what I have seen of the Fusion, it has the same shape as a Genius, but covers less boards than the Genius does, keep in mind they are both hybrid covers, but he Genius has a stronger core.  For me the Exile is cleaner and sharper...hope this helps.

Frike300-- How much stronger is the Exile when compared to the MM Genius? I'm assuming the Genius has a "smoother" type reaction when compared to the Exile (not as flippy, possibly easier to read on most patterns)-- but is a nice step down from the original Mastermind.

Is there any reason to suggest the Blue Ringer as a step up from the LT-48, but still weaker than the top end of his arsenal? I would still drill up either the Exile or the Genius, but maybe throw in something weaker overall (melee, melee cross, ringer series)-- actually, I bet you could trade the Fusion for BOTH a ringer and Melee (you'll prob need to add a bit of cash to the deal, but if you find someone "in need" (and most of the Utah type people are slower when it comes to buying/trading equipment) but I bet it can be done).
Reax-45x4.5x40(pin down)
Nexus (original)- 45 x 4 x 35 (pin up)
503t-45x4.5x40
Source-60 x 5.5 x 50
Nexxxus f(p+s)-70x5.5x35
Marauder-55x5x50 (2k+polish)
300t-60x5.5x50 (+polish)
Melee-75x6x40 -- Anyone want to buy this?

Sorry if you mis-interpreted what I posted, the Genius is about 3 stronger for me than the Exile.  The Exile needs friction for me, but when it does see friction, it looks like it is kicked sideways.  I threw the Exile tonight on 40 ft White pattern and was very impressed, as that pattern tends to hook early sometimes for me.

I think the LT Vintage is stronger than the Blue Ringer, the Blue Ringer is again a little smoother.

Hope this helps and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Thanks for the responses. I am leaning towards passing on the Genius, drilling the Fusion, and getting the Fortera when its released. I will drill step up on the dril angle for both the Fusion and Fortera, and see how they work out as I move further inside. Looks like the Fortera will recover and have enough left to kick out the ten while not rolling out and leaving eight pins as I move in. Can't wait.

I drilled my Lt 48 4 inch pin to pap and a 40 dgree VAL angle. I also drilled the Fusion, rather than trying to trade it. Our house changed the shot this week to a heavier, relatively flat shot. On the fresh, there is no wall outside of ten. Throw out and it hangs untill the break down. I started our with the Mastermind and shot 245 out the gates. Struggled miserably with the transittion using the Mastermind and shot 170. Changed to the Fusion and opened the first two frames of the third game. Said what the, picked up the LT 48, moved right played straight up the track and shot a respectable 190, with three opens including a split in the 8th after a 3 bagger.

I stayed after league, and shot two more games on the same lanes. Moved deeper and shot in the 220s both games. The Lt 48 showed more recovery from the inside than I was giving it credit for, which I suspected when I threw the split in the eigth frame of game three, going through the nose.

I think I will be able to cover most conditions with the Mastermind, Fusion, Lt 48 Natural Pearl. I want to try the Fortera, but really don't think I will need it above the LT 48. I may drill it stronger than the Fusion  to use behind the Mastermind.

After comparing the Fortera Exile, Mastermind Genius, and the LT 48 I believe that the Genius will fill the Gap in the bag better than the Fortera.  The Genius as Mike said is earlier than the Fortera and needs a little bit more head oil to work.  The Fortera works best when there is a defined friction spot to throw at and the heads have started to burn considerably.  The Fortera will be the ball I go to when my Genius starts to burn a little or is a little to much.  The Mastermind Genius is the ball I use as a step down from the Mastermind.  It gets much better length and fills the gap perfectly.
