Best Ball To Conquer Christmas Tree Pattern.
« on: December 07, 2005, 01:31:12 PM »
which of my drilled brunsiwck balls would be best for conquering the christmas tree pattern?

what kind of shot line is usually most successful?
i like to play a straighter line, but would like to learn to open up the lane a little more.

im a pretty flexible player, im able to control revs and releases.

im joining a big money league with medium oil, and would like to have a little knowledge going in about the pattern.

thanks, see profile for ball list and layouts.

i would have said Top Hat or THS if i meant it to be (who posts about that?).
of MY DRILLED equipment, which would match up best?
i was planning on bringing the AI, Uranium and H2O.

Med/Heavy Oil - Smooth Reaction with AI
Medium Oil - Max Hook Layout on Uranium
Med/Light Oil - H2O

the inferno is drilled 4L.
so i take it, a late reaction is preferred for this pattern?

4L would leave you with a very mild reaction. If you have some good hand, it is a good option for lightly oiled or broken down lanes. Since the Inferno is a strong ball, it should even be playable on medium conditions with this drilling. Just do not expect too much overall hook from it. It should deliver a late snap, a good choice for a THS.

to make a long story short...

i only was able to take about 8 shots on the pattern, practice only.
all with the absolute inferno.
it seemed really over under depending on release.
when i used more side rotation it skidded really far, and over reacted on the backend.
when i used more forward roll, it checked up too early.
my only strike was with forward roll
my ugliest hit was with side rotation - 4-9

granted, i was inconsistent during practice, but it seemed awfully touchy.

well, i need to establish average over the next 3 weeks.
so, i think ill try the uranium this week as the first ball out of the bag.
it has a earlier rolling drill on it.
so, if it is tremendously unsuccessful, it will be replaced with the inferno.

both the uranium and inferno have the same coverstock, just early/late layouts.

anyone else have Christmas Tree pattern success?

the last year the pba tour was shown on abc-tv( 1997 ) the majority of the shows had a christmas tree oil pattern. the pattern was usually 36-38 feet long with a relatively flat taper---no hold if you pulled it and with limited recovery if you miised too far to the outside. there were several players that year that really shined on that condition: walter ray williams, jr., won 3 titles using the extreme outside line playing down the 3-4-5 board. pete weber and brian voss each won 2 titles using more hook but plenty of forward roll. amleto monacelli and wayne webb also won 2 titles apiece and they used the most hook of the players i mentioned. most of these players used stable drilling patterns. the key to this pattern is good shotmaking more than anything else.

The greeks, very nice guys, that house has been night and day for me, best luck deeper with weak  drilled reactive solids. Who you bowling with?? Shot usually is a medium volume at best, backends a bit spotty pattern not relatively long. How about your Original inferno with less axis rotation playing a small belly around the 3 arrow. A lot of guys i know out of there throw pretty hard, but its been a few years. Possibly your Danger Zone also.

im supposed to be teaming up with 2 other guys starting tuesday, greg, who is also greek, and mike who is new with the leauge, they've been stuck with a vacant, so im filling that spot for the 2nd half. they are in 2nd to last because of it.
greg is averaging 184, but has the potential for 210+, he strung together 6 in a row when i was watching the 1st game.

mike is a little inconsistent with his slide and release.
i think hes averaging 165 or something, definately has the potential to do well.

im shooting for a top 10 finish in the 32 team league in the 2nd half.
thanks for the advice, should a stash away the absolute then?
when i threw it in practice, there was no way i could play outside of 3rd arrow.
