Red Zone Cover Stock
« on: July 25, 2006, 08:50:38 AM »
Is the Red Zone cover stock the same as the Strike Zone and if it is, will it die out like the strike zone does. Most everyone that I have spoke with claims the activator cover stock dies after 40-50 games. Is this poor maintenance on the this cover stock or is their a problem with the cover stock.

Activator is one of the longest lasting covers aroud.  The SZ is a very strong ball with a dull cover and strong core.  It is far more likely that they're throwing it on lanes with not enough oil than the ball is dying.

I haven't seen any cover problems with any Brunswick cover stocks, new or old.

Improper use and improper care kill more balls than company's make duds.  The friction generated by throwing strong equipment on less than their intended conditions wears them out faster than the oil absorption problems associated with throwing them on floods in my opinion.

If you throw on any "normal" lane condition, you don't need anything stronger than a Classic Zone or Vapor Zone, unless your speed is highly dominant over your revs.  If you like to stand left and fling a ball with a ton of revs at 21 mph to hook the whole lane, there are consequences.  You're throwing a strong cover over a lot of dry boards.  Most of the time, a good cleaning, a resurface, and a coat of polish makes these strong balls better for league shots and last longer.

My original Inferno has over a 1000 games and has never been backed and resurfaced only once. And it's only lost a few boards of hook.

Brunswick has the best covers on the market and the Activator stands on top of the list.

i've always cleaned my activator balls after every set, all bowling balls actually and both my Ultimate and Absolute died after about 300 games. My Ultimate I was able to revive but my Absolute never came back and now is my dry lane ball. I've had many other balls and never had any lose the same amount of reaction i've lost from these two balls. my proshop driller has had the same problem with his UI and has gotten similar reports from his friends.
