Sometimes side roll is good, when the lanes call for it.  But you should learn how to throw a flat shot too.  It's as simple as changing the angle of rotation..., let the ball come off the back of your hand more as opposed to turning your hand so much.  Try to hit a 10 pin with your hook ball, and throw it straight.  Then change the angle slightly, so you have a bit more turn on it... keep going from there to see what angle feels best and reacts the best.  Sounds easier than it is, I had to use a wrist brace to learn.

Nice vid.  I agree with the others that you tend to put more of a side roll on your shot, and that you tend to swing the ball out.  That's good if you bowl on wall shots where it tends to be bone dry on the outside boards.  If you try to do that same shot on a flat oil pattern and/or heavier oil pattern, then you'll be hitting the gutter or miss the pocket entirely.  A more straighter and down and in shot would be good in tough conditions. I would start developing a more forward roll game just for those patterns that you need more of a forward roll.  It will take time to get used to having your hand behind the ball when you shoot your shot.  If you have this, along with your current side roll game, you'll develop more versatility and be able to tackle any lane condition that you encounter.

What can i do in practice to help keep my hand behind the ball.  Some drills or anything will be helpful.
