Going to be drilling up an LT48 later today and I'm not sure how I want to lay it out. I need a ball that gets downlane easily and is smooth off the back of the pattern, something that can handle transition well when my marvel pearl starts to lose energy. How has everyone else drilled theirs? I was thinking pin over bridge with a weight hole, or pin under middle would be best. My marvel pearl is pin over/slightly right of ring and cg stacked with a hole. Don't want the LT48 to be too strong though.
I throw it about 15 mph, lower track, not sure of tilt or rotation. generally bowl on sport patterns, and I'd imagine the ball would be best on short/medium shots.
Any recommendations? I'm pretty much looking to replace a pin under bridge hyroad that was still a little too jumpy for what I wanted... I know the ball is already fairly smooth, so I didn't know if going pin down would be a wise choice. Thank you

I have one that is pin up and it still isn't to sharp off the spot. My pin down is much sooner and smoother though. if you are looking to get it down the lane, I would suggest a pin up drilling.

I'd modify that depending on the usual culprits. The LT-48 gets lots of length naturally; it's a medium-light oil ball, after all, with its stock surface. I drilled mine, pin under center of bridge, roughly a 5" pin, with ~55 degree VAL angle. It still turns very hard, as long as you hit some to a lot of dry. It seems to need a lot of dry to make the turn and I'm rev dominant. I wouldn't suggest a pin up drilling unless you have both little tilt and a small angle of rotation or you're going to bowl on some very dry lanes.
You still need to take into consideration your delivery/release specs and the oil on which you're bowling before you drill this ball.

Got to love it. Two totally opposite recommendations. I have an Lt 48 sitting on the shelf and ponder the same question. However, I am playing it behind a mastermind and Fusion.
I am leaning towards just putting my favorite drill on it, similar to the Mastermind and Fusion, and then adjusting the cover as needed.
Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Lay it out like your marvel pearl and adjust the cover if needed.

You'll be safe with any layout that has worked for you before, but with your lower track I'd suggest going pin down at about 4.5" from your PAP. This should tap into the ball's strengths, which is the way it reads friction so predictably.
The cover has been great for me around 3000, but you can always try it shiny and then tweak according to your conditions.
It's not uncommon to get varying ideas since we all bowl on varying conditions.

interesting opinions. i don't want it to get into a roll TOO early so that's why i was considering pin up... but i definitely don't want it to skate on medium oil and transition/carry down. i suppose i could copy the layout my hyroad had... it should naturally be a little smoother and weaker than that i'd imagine. seems that pin down and about 4.5-5 is the consensus so far. i'll talk to my pro shop guy and see what happens. thanks!

My buddy just got one. He throws it about 14-15mph. Pin down, cg kicked right. he's right-handed. He shot 258 on a fresh lite oil shot, and then followed up second game with a 259. Ball read the mids great and had a consistent, smooth turn to the pocket. He only shot a 186 third game because he did not migrate far enough left. This is one seriously consistent and dependable ball!

I would suggest the pin down layout with a longer pin to axis. This is a great core cover combo. As Lane said you can't go wrong with putting your favorite layout on it either.

I drilled one RICO and love it as far as the ball motion (very smooth) but still hits harder than expected...Just an idea.
