Mammoth drilling options
« on: December 13, 2007, 04:17:14 AM »
I just picked up this NIB Mammoth and I looking for some options for drilling.
My pap is PAP 4.5 > by 1 inch, I bowl on synthetics, I am a power tweener and I like playing the middle of the lane. I have no idea what my speed is but I'll have to guess around 16-17 mph. My track is low.

The Mammoth is 15#'s 4 oz., 3-4 pin and 2.3 top weight. The lanes I bowl on are usually not heavy flooded but they resently changed the volume of oil and are putting down 1 oz more (so I am told). The shot is a typical house shot about 40 ft oiled with dry bumpers.

I've been getting too many 10 pins of late while playing straight down around boards 5 and 10. I much rather play from 20 to 10.

I'm thinking about either drilling 2L or 3L.

Thanks in advance
Paul

Paul,

The cover on this one needs a FLOOD, so I'd try something like pin 4.5-5" from PAP. Ask your driller if he thinks you should go above or below the fingers. I'm inclined to say below because you'll probably end up smoothing the ball out to around 2000 abralon, maybe even 4000 abralon so it will hit and carry.

I tried mine with some polish but liked it better with the abralon. Good luck.

notclay is right. But you can always bring up the surface if you find it too strong for what you need.
