Meanstreak Beatdown First impressions
« on: May 02, 2014, 11:35:00 PM »
Just what I wanted.  We have another lefty guy in our house using the C System Maxxed we are similarly good handed him a touch faster and more loft.

I got this after I received a bummer spec S System Maxx off Ebay.  Great specs and described coverstock which sounded like what I needed for this wettish backend shot on slicker synthetics.

My lefty friend was struggling with 10 pins!  And a lot of 7s till I got him out near 5 and then he was finally flush enough!

This ball has been brought in to replace my vary pleasing RotoGrip Grand Illusion which has often been very satisfactory!  Most times.  Though drilled right and now left and used for hundreds (maybe thousands of games by another owner), this polished smooth symmetric still has it unless our shot goes real soggy in the back(frequently).  I believe the multiple drills maybe have sapped a bit of the core horsepower.

Many of the soggy days I wish it would just turn up a small tad harder.  I didn't want to alter with a weighthole as it has been so serviceable so often, so....

Now the Meanstreak Beatdown.  Drilled just ever so slightly stronger than the Grand Illusion this attractive ball left in an unpolished state  and drilled at 4 1/2 and 3 3/4(CG) stacked will turn and square off to the pocket just ever so much stronger than my Grand Illusion.

I perceive this new orb as slightly later and maybe coverstock stronger than the CSystem MAxx when needed at the back, which is nice as there is no jerk at the back from this core, just round readable and very continuous!  Thwack.  Maybe a wettish house shot killer!

Whether the coverstock continues to perform well after polish(my recent experience with Brunswick coverstocks), great till hit with Ebonite polish!

At this time it is a strong, rounded and hard hitting Just a slight move left will get this ball to square to the pocket very nicely and flush.  Very simple and very readable move!

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS my Storm Manic is very similar only drilled quite a bit weaker with the pin above my bridge and cg in grip center.  Naturally weaker and I move about 2 boards farther left.

Don't polish. Hit with 4000 or don't use Ebonite Polish.

Back to Basics,

Have you had bad experiences with Brunswick balls with other companies polishes?

Yes. Not sure why but some polishes seem to kill ball reaction.  Royal Shine doesn't for me.

Ah interesting!  I have Brunswick polishes laying around also!  Both Ruff Buff and Factory polish.  I think I have used Storm in the past and maintained reaction or enhanced it!

Any others with comments on this ball or Brunswick covers with different polishes.

On mine which I had drilled for max flare, it is 500/4000. Did the same to my Mastermind, but it's laid out with the pin up for more length.

The Beatdown I've not thrown that much. It is pretty smooth when it turns and rolls up hard to the pocket.  Flares a bunch too.

I'm kinda liking the 500/4000 so far.
2014-15 avg 193  Current arsenal....Faball Red and Brunswick Blue Ringer Solid / Maxim spare ball.

I picked up the Meanstreak Beatdown on clearance from Buddie's Pro Shop.  I drilled it pin in ring finger, CG in grip center.  I drilled the fingers 3" deep, in case I wanted to add a MOtion hole.  I changed the surface to 1000/2000 Abralon after drilling, and was very happy with the reaction.

My plan for this ball was for the team event at USBC Nationals.  I was very happy with the ball reaction that I got from this layout and surface.  On the fresh, I was able to play up about the 7 board and got a nice, smooth roll off the end of the pattern.

I'll be bowling in a league this summer with a very slick THS.  I plan on taking the surface to either 500/1000 or 500/2000.  I also have the Meanstreak Brawler (pin over ring, CG in grip center, MOtion hole, box finish), and it makes a great combination with the Meanstreak Beatdown.
