Multiple questions concerning "Funky Layout"
« on: April 07, 2005, 09:17:50 AM »
As the subject says, I have multiple questions concerning the funky layout...seeing as how it was posted on the BrunswickInsiders site, I figured I pop the question up in the Brunswick forum (as an aside, though i'm a Track guy, I absolutely love that Insiders website, GREAT information!).

http://www.brunswickinsiders.com/PBATour/PBATournaments/Westbabylon/featuredbalwb.htm

I have a ball with a rather long pin, definitely at least 4 1/2 inches, and I'm just curious how to lay this ball out.  I drill my own stuff, and i'm just kind of curious where to even start here.  I see that the CG is in the palm for this layout, and that the pin-to-pap line should be 1 1/2 inches under the backside of the thumb.

My PAP is 6" over, 1" up.  Would this cause a problem with this layout?  Having such a high-track already limits me in layouts, I was wondering if this layout would be past the limitations as well.  It is also mentioned that drilling the finger and thumbholes deeper should be done to keep the static weights legal.  The pin is on the "negative" side of the ball and the CG in the palm (at least in the picture) so you would probably need to drill the middle finger deeper to bring it back to legal (assuming weight needs to be taken out), right?

Much thanks to all who can help!!  Maybe this will also give BrunsNick something to do...:-)

If your cg is in the center of your grip then drilling any hole deeper is not neccessary to balance static weights. If it is for example lower than the midline you will need to drill your thumb deeper.

I don't think you should have a problem with this layout as the ball flares "under" the thumb hole.... you just need to make sure you get pin far enough below the midline to make sure the bowtie is next to or below your thumb.  See my post about the layout:

BTW, I shot another 279 this week in league with this ball....  I left a 4 pin the the second frame and a 4 pin on the 3rd ball in the tenth frame.

If you have any specific questions, I can try and help you (I did drill this one)...or maybe BrunsRicH or BrunsPro will post...

added:
I'm not 100% sure on the reaction of this layout if an assymetrical core ball is used.  All equipment I have seen (and used obviously) have been symmetrical core balls.  I would assume that possibly you would get a more pronounced type of reaction...
