A little help from the nation!!!
« on: April 08, 2005, 02:21:11 PM »
I need a ball for dry lanes.I mean burnt heads and backend.I use Morich and so does my proshop guy.He suggests a Power Groove. He drilled himself up one and says it's a decent ball.I really respect his opinion, but you guys use Brunswick all of the time.I love the Morich balls but there cores and coverstocks are way to strong for burnt lanes.I haven't thrown Brunswick since my Black Ice Zone and Teal and gold Rhino pros. Can I get your blessings on this ball or would you try something else from the Brunswick line.I throw between 17-19mph with a good amount of revs.Any help would be great.I know how knowledgable "the nation" is because from time to time I read your forums. Thanks ahead of time for your help I appreciate it!!!!

Power groove DRY/R......the Dry/R part is VERY important.  Unless you're a super fluffer, which you said you aren't, a normal PG will be way too strong for what you describe, but a dry/r should be good for that.

I have read that the power groove REACTIVES are too strong for dry lanes. If we are talking BURNT, Brunswick has just come out with the Power Groove Dry/R.
This is the mildest reactive they make. It is specifically designed for dry lanes. I have not thrown it though, so this is all second hand. Nick has thrown it however. If he is online, he may want to chime in.

Pancake cores dont hit weak when you're bowling on burnt lane conditions.  They actually hit quite well given the abundant amount of friction, which is why you still see ppl shoot telephone numbers with blue dots/yellow dots, and other throw back balls.

Now that I think about it.... two words. JIM PRATT. Sure he has a bunch o' revs, but his plastic didn't hit weak!!!!! (I think it had a pancake block.)
Correct me if wrong!

Thanks, I am feeling better about this ball already Welp since I have help from the dry end whatcha have for super long 50ft flat pattern soaked in the Brunswick arsenal. For Morich I have the Shock and Awe, Ravage 1&2. .For Storm I have the X factor, XXX Factor, and the Ace. .I also own a Track Animal. My arsenal is almost complete.  I am just trying to sure up the missing links. I am actually trying to get my arsenal down a little bit, because my wife yells about all the balls around the house lol. I feel Storm equipment burns out after fewer games. My Animal is ok. I have shot many high series with it; I just cannot seem to fall in love with it. I am willing to try other Brunswick balls. Any balls work well on more than one condition? I bowl in a bunch of different houses all different shots. I would love to carry fewer balls if possible.Sorry for the novel!!

snowman, first of all you don't need to apologize for novels, it helps the people who want to help you!

Secondly, I would recommend the following balls because of thier versatility:

Original Inferno- one can build any arsenal around this classic.

Monster Bruiser- Most "medium" ball I have ever heard of. Can go from med/dry-medium/heavy with surface prep alone.

I would also recommend the BVP Punisher for less than mediums, but not for dry lanes. For dry, stay with the Dry/R.

This is only my opinion, others may vary.

Also, for the 50ft soaked pattern, I'd say Ultimate Inferno. This ball can also be easily adjusted using surface prep. It'll cut through that oil, then when it hits that dry- bam!

Basically, anything you choose will be money on something.
Good luck!
