Well, I have had some work done to this since my last post. My driller went with a bigger weight hole, added some polish and ......WHAM! The Melee has been brought to life! I see the length AND continuation in the back now! I tested it out this week during some league matches and I still see some minor over/under. He has now taken the polish off and went with a 1500 grit finish to give me a more even roll and eliminate the over/under. i will have to wait until Monday league to test it out with the new surface but I think I am going to have a good night with it, I just have a feeling. I think with this set up I am going to have a ball I can use on any condition and be confident about getting the ball to face up in the pocket. My ball driller has done an excellent job and has been very patient with me, could not have asked for a better experience! thanks AB!

Thanks bud. I am sure you will begin to see great reaction from it.

Interesting that our two houses where I bowl have tweaked their oil patterns, and tomorrow I plan to go back closer to the factory surface again. Probably 500, then compound without the high gloss. Gotta be willing to match up with what's there.

Thanks for the update.

Glad to hear things are working out. The Melee is very versatile with different drill and surface combinations. Looking forward to hearing some honor scores soon!

So I was able to try out the Melee with a different surface last night during league. The one thing I have noticed with this ball is that I am able to stay right of everyone else and stay in the dry without worrying about the ball over reacting and blowing through the nose. This ball does not like oil. I did see a little bit over/under reaction but I think it was mostly operator error. I had games of 204,225, 180.....not impressive but I need to learn to trust this ball more and really get my fingers in it. I can stand at 5-10 and target first arrow compared to my InSite Almighty and Storm Hyroad standing 15-22 targeting second or third arrow. I think I have a great arsenal of equipment where I can play anywhere on the lanes. I can go down and in with the melee and not worry about over reaction or I can get inside with almighty or hyroad and swing it to the dry and watch it fly!

MrNatty I am seeing the same thing as you. The ball never moves early unless I have severely tugged it. I too was waaaayyy further right than normal with it last friday night. What I did was move right and move my eyes in a little and play a smooth arc shot into the track area. never moved all night though it was a mixed league. I also found I had to make sure I "hit" it pretty good at the bottom to ensure good turn. I cannot see where I could move much left with this ball, not with the shape it gives me.
-
I can't see myself playing inside with this either. I do see the continuation now that I have played outside with this ball. I too must hit this ball at the bottom or there wont be any recovery. This is going to be an excellent piece for me.

After initially using this ball OOB to play down and in, I was actually surprised about how deep I can play with this ball simply by making the proper hand adjustments. But then I have a slower ball speed and can make things hook that higher speed/revs players can't.

UPDATE:
Ok, so after some more practice/testing, I have found that for me the best surface was polished. I started firing the ball up the boards last night with polish on this ball and found that was the best reaction I can get out of this. I was lofting it out about 6-8 feet on the lane and that thing was crushing the pocket. Now it wasn't a fresh league shot or anything we were bowling on but I found that this ball is the best for me with polish and the bigger weight hole. I will post my final thoughts on this ball after next weeks league matches and some practice over the weekend.

Our house shots have been drier on the outside than before, so mine is polished once again. It's definitely a keeper as long as I'm playing closer to friction.

well, the more I roll this ball, the more I like it. Last night my scores weren't high but I was so consistent at hitting the pocket. Went 233, 208, 208 for 649. Like I said, not high scores but I was very consistent on hitting the pocket. I missed pocket once all night because I pulled a shot and crossed over. I covered every spare and had a clean match. Left a few 10-pins and 7-pins but covered them all. Looking back, I probably should have moved outside a board or two with my feet and kept the same target to give an increased entry angle. I am very happy with the consistency of this ball and the smooth controllable reaction I am getting. This was my first clean match in quite some time.

Natty,
Clean sets are tough to come by. Nice bowling!

I just knew this ball was going to be special. I was at it again last night with another clean set. Back to back clean sets is something I haven't done in a long time. Tonight it was all 7 & 10 pins. And then there was the pesky 2 pin after the front nine in game 2...lol. Overall this is just a fantastic ball. Super clean, smooth and the continuation is remarkable. Last night I shot games of 247-279-238 for 764. The melee just has fantastic power through the pins.

Nice bowling!! Keep those matches coming.

Great bowling!!! Glad that Melee has come through for you!
