Ambush is a beast . .
« on: March 16, 2006, 01:39:41 AM »
Think I'm gonna order a case of them!  I usually start out nights with my Classic Zone Red Pin, because it's very controllable and it allows me to stay in the same spot longer.  Well, it just hasn't quite been cutting it recently, just hasn't wanted to hook sometimes.  Tuesday early, I had 484 going into the last game, and left a weak 10 first shot of my last game.  Hit light the last couple frames of the second game, so I pulled out the Ambush.  Had the next 9 before I left a 10 for 279 and 763.  Last night I got asked to sub at the last minute, and again started with my CZ.  It was hooking (different house) but still just didn't have as much pop as it normally does.  Couple light leaves in game 1, then I pulled out the good ol' Ambush again.  To make a long story short (you all know me and long stories . .), 246-244-299 for my high sanctioned set of 789.  Left a 7-10 the first frame of my second game, and also left another split the second shot in the 10th of that game.  Otherwise I was clean.  Lol, the funny thing was that I didn't bowl near as well last night as I did Tuesday night.  My thumb had swollen a little, and my fingers had shrank, so I was having trouble getting lift AND getting my thumb out, but I just put the ball in the right spot, it revved up, and didn't leave me anything I didn't deserve.  You know what else was interesting?  We had a 685, 650, 741 and my 789 (plus the 160 average guy's 501) and we didn't win a frickin point.  We're in second for high team scratch series, lol, but we didn't win a thing . .

I've really been wanting to buy an Ambush lately.

I primarily bowl with my Power Groove or my Trauma ER (see profile).  Lately I've been getting a lot more hand in the ball, and my stuff has been a bit jumpy.  Do you guys think an Ambush would be a bit more predictable/ smoother?

I know the ball doesn't make the bowler, but I think the Ambush might help.  Comments?

i really like the reaction i get from my ambush. when my goliath is too much and my nemesis isn't enough the ambush with it's low load particle coverstock  works just great. plenty of midlane roll but it doesn't hook early like many particle balls.

I like mine after I tweaked the cover.  A friend of mine shot 800 with his the first week he got his.
RDR don't be afraid to scuff or dull the cover on your equipment, when it gets a little jumpy that usaully means you need more surface.  I haven't thrown the ER so couldn't tell how much a diffence it would make between the Ambush. I had to dull my Ambush to get the look I wanted.

It doesn't really act like a pearl particle though . . it's funny.  Brunswick particle stuff has it's own unique reaction.  Cleaner through the heads than most particle stuff, then starts revving up and has a very clean, smooth transition on the backend and keeps going through the pins.  Reacts a lot like my old Detonator.

I had exactly the opposite happen last night . .  Started with the Ambush, and the lanes were a lot drier than they normally were.  Everybody on my team moved left every shot in the first game, and two of them changed to plastic before the game was over.  Switched to my CZ, took a while to find the shot (had 3 4-9's for 172), started out the second game spare-open, got comfortable at 24-12, and threw the next 18 in a row.  One trip 4, and one break, the rest were solid.  Back to back 267's for 706, lol.  The guy that switched to plastic had 280 his last game for 688, and the woman that switched to plastic didn't do anything special, but the last two games were a lot better than her first one.  The OWNER of the center who averages around 210-215 had 278 for his first TWO games.  Something must have been wrong when they oiled the lanes, but they still weren't that tough.  The lanes changed every shot the first game, but were consistent the rest of the night right up to the last few frames.  Brunswick stuff makes it so much easier to adjust.  Nice clean predictable reaction, makes it so comfortable to throw the ball when you know what it's going to do.  Had the high set in the league

Dude, you throw a freakin awesome shot . . and I'm sure the Ambush makes it just that much more comfortable.  Probably the best ball I've ever owned.  I averaged 267 for the games I bowled with it this week . .

I disagree regarding Brunswick particles in general...

Maybe not this newer one...but up till now it has been rumored that Brunswick particles are a harder ceramic than many other companies softer particles.

I actually believe on low volume lanes in a quiet center on anvilanes one can almost hear them chewing in to the lane surface...munch munch munch.  Almost like diamond on concrete!

This newer particle(I think they said something like this in their advertising) may be very different!

REgards,

PS glad this ball is so awesome for you!

Well, everything since the Detonator has looked that way for me.  I don't know about Big B particles earlier than that.  Lol, I didn't like my Raging Inferno so much, but it still rolled great.
