Ok, here it is, easy to understand. The Scorchin is not the type of heavy oil ball that's going to munch through everything and hook at 30 feet. This is the type of ball that gives you a lot of hook without being over/under. I didn't really like mine either, but that's beside the point. The ball has incredible length and will come back from anywhere if you give it a tad extra time to rev up. It's not going to be jumpy. I had the same look from 2nd arrow as I did from 5th arrow with mine. The key is to not launch the ball and just expect it to hook. For me, it had the same look as my Smokin does. If you get too firm with it, it's going to act weak unless you just have a lot of dry to work with. However, if you get a little softer and give it that chance to rev and start moving, it'll hook from anywhere.
So basically it IS a heavy oil ball with a different look than normal heavy oil balls. This is a ball you can be softer and smoother with that will be very consistent and readable. Lol, and like I said, I didn't like mine, but the more I see of the ball and the more I think about how mine reacted, and especially with what I'm seeing of my new Smokin, I understand it better. But no, from first glance if you don't understand what the ball will do, it doesn't look or act like a heavy oil ball, it acts like it's a marshmellow that doesn't hook. I drilled one for a friend and he absolutely hated it too, but once he's worked with it a little and gotten in tune with the ball, it's all he throws, and he scores great with it. I honestly think it's even more versatile than the Ultimate was. The only REAL problem the ball has is that it auto-polishes itself BIG TIME. It'll go from box to looking like 1500 grit polish in less than 10 games, and that's not just the track, it's the whole ball.
