Smokin Inferno Tracking over fingers
« on: March 10, 2008, 02:57:30 PM »
I recently bought a used Smokin' from a friend. I had my driller plug the fingers and redrill for my span (went from no grips to grips)he left the pin in the same place (under ring finger RH)I threw the ball tonight in league and it was tracking over the fingers. All of the rest of my balls track close to the fingers but I have never rolled over them before. It sure has a very distinct sound! I apologize but I also do not know my PAP. The driller is kind of old school, and he uses the  "conventional" nothing special.

What would be the best sugestion for this? Would a balance hole cure the finger problem?

Any help is appreciated before I take it back to the shop tomorrow.\

Thanks in advance!

I do believe you're only hope is a complete plug and redrill.  Tracking across the fingers is called a full roller, and there are 2 ways to drill for that.  I recently had a customer with the same issue of tracking across the fingers when he is not a full roller, so we had to plug and redrill.

Thanks for the replies...I was just doing some research and came across this page
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/kennmelvin/tTracks.htm the closest is what they call a cranker.
My Normal track (Pin below on a Scorchin' and Pin over on a Total)looks like it is inverted, close to the fingers and farther from thumb. I don't beleive I am a "full roller" I think I just need to lower my track???

So I guess that I am clipping the middle finger because I track high? Would that be a fair statement? Would a plug and re-drill with Pin up be the answer? Or is there some other way to lower the track? I just don't feel its worth another $50 to fix the ball if the plug and drill is the only way.

Thanks in advance...for suggestions

Does the ball have a weight hole in it now?  If it doesn't place a weight hole below your PAP on your VAL.  Make sure you at least 2 1/2 deep with a large bit.  It should take care of the clipping.

Thanks for the replies...BUT, I still need to clairfy if placing a x hole on the PAP would help the clipping?

Cueman, A hole below the PAP on the VAL will increase the flare but will also raise the bow tie.  PM Brunsrico about why this happens.  Besides it couldn't hurt to try before you plug it up anyways.

Update:

I picked up the ball from the proshop. He put a Xhole on the left side of the ball! I have never seen a hole on that side for a RH drilling before. Did he really mess this up??? He mumbled something about "positive side weight now" and sent me on my way....he did'nt seem to be in a good mood for talking or me telling him I thought it might be wrong!

What kind of reaction will I expect with a Xhole on the midline, but the left side??

Any help is apprreciated!

Thanks
