Monster Slay/R for REALLY Snap happy lanes?
« on: September 26, 2006, 11:10:46 AM »
Hey guys, I'm bowling on concreate with sharp backends or so it seems.  With my normal release I am off the 5th arrow to start of my series and it only gets worse from there.  Currently I tried using a dulled vapor zone b/c it burns up and turns less and my quantum fire drilled to be a dry lane ball (4l?) on brunswicks chart. I also have an Original Thunder Road Pearl from 9 yrs ago that is usually great for light oils.  But to no avail with any of those on this shot.   I need a ball that will be LONG and SMOOOOOOOOOOTH I am looking for a ball that comes off the break with a urethane like break and plastic like length, can I get that out of a Slay/R?  I mean if it hooks NO more than plastic that is GREAT but just give me a touch more consistancy at the break and I can be happy.

One rule of thumb... Dont buy a pearl ball with the backends are burned up because even a Monster Slayer with hook like hell when hitting the dry areas...On top of that might even be more inconsistant than any other ball you have... Hope this helps you... Maybe even consider a nice plastic, maybe the Lane #1 buzzsaw xxxl, I dont think it will be a waste of money anyway.

i think you might have answered your own question there crank, why not try a Groove Uretane with a little touch of polish or just sand it up?

Hmm, I just wonder if I can get it to be mellow enough.  Might work out well.

I have one and it is very weak. It is just a step up from mu blue dot. I think it is exactly what you are looking for. Mine doesn't have a jumpy bone in its body and it goes forever before it starts to hook.

I recently got a SlayR for just these conditions and I love it. In fact I shot a 755 only the 4th, 5th & 6th games on the ball. Don't get me wrong this ball will still break off the dry just not as quick as my infernos. I am using the SlayR in OOB condition. Purchased off eBay. Cost $69 shipped, drilled, finger grips and thumb slug $40 Total $109.

I think I could deal with a much softer reaction than the infernos, but its this or urethane soooo any help is appreciated.

Click on this link: http://www.brunsnick.com/videos.html and go to the Groove Urethane and have a look at it.  It should give you a decent idea of what that Groove will do, and it looks like Nick gets a pretty good amount of revs on it too.

I wouldn't say the Slay/R is best suited for "snap happy" lanes, meaning they are still fresh. The ball is best when the shot has burned up and you need something NOT to jerk off of early friction.

NIck do you say this b/c its not enough ball for most fresh shots or do you say this b/c it will still be too snappy untill there is some place for it to burn a little energy in the fronts? I am just curious as to what your statement meant.

I'm saying its because the Slay/R is too clean through the front to be good for fresh. It is better suited for when the heads start to dry up and you need something to get down the lane.

Ahh I see.  Ok I hope you check back on this then.  What ball would you choose if you were seeing a shot that was forcing you off the 5th arrow out as far as you could push it with your least reactive ball to start the series?  Right now I am throwing a Quantum Fire drilled to be my dry lane ball and it is getting down to ~42 ft and turning dead right from WAY inside.  I can pipe plastic up the track, but you know the kind of hit that a target zone shows you.  I also have an old Storm Thunder Road Pearl that I usually rely on to handle light to down right dry shots and it makes a nice smooth shot out of them on a broken shot.  That thing just rips on this shot too.  I am at a loss to be honest.  Think of me asking you this knowing that we throw a similar style, so just base it on what YOU would choose to try to combat this.

If you would choose something and just cut revs let me know that too, honestly the best option I have had, and only for the first game, is to throw my dull vapor zone from deep inside and it burns up enough to actually tame the backend.  That ball is at 600 and just dying, my Fired up at 1000 ( taming over under) is just unusable on this shot, litterally can swing the ENTIRE lane, I can lay it down on the gutter cap and send it out to 5 and watch it roll over a 4 pin, UNREAL.

I'd move further inside, 6th arrow is still doable.

Sounds like you just need to take some hand out of the ball, you don't always have to wheel on it.

If you're looking for a ball suggestion, then a Dry/R sounds like your pick.
