Rampage vs. Punisher
« on: January 29, 2006, 03:34:19 AM »
i know this has probally been posted before but... I have a punisher drilled pin beside ring and cg 2 inches directly below ring... If i took a rampage and had it drilled exactly the dame way, how much stronger would the rampage be? i need something with a little more backend and want to stay with a mid price ball and i really like to throw brunswick because they seem to match up good with my game... Thanks

tugger,

in theory the rampage has a stronger cover than the punisher; that means it will handle more oil. so, on the same oil pattern, the rampage will be earlier with more overall hook and less "apparent" backend, if they are drilled the same.

different drillings may get the ranpage to handle the same oil pattern as the punisher, but retain more energy and "display" it at the backend. usually a higher pin osition further from the bowler's pap can help do this.

keep in mind one very important consideration: many house patterns have the potential to make very different balls act very much alike; it doesn't always happen but it can and does. therefore balls should never be evaluated on the basis of a single experience. you should try different houses at different time to get a true relationship of ball behavior.

well i use my punisher on a fresh THS and here lately it seems not to be getting back to the pocket as well as it used to... and i think its time to get a better ball... many people are getting this ball at my house and i was thinking about it as well because i don't have much money and like the BVP stuff even though i only have the punisher... idk maybe a Ambush? nobody has one of those around here

tugger,

that is very different from what you said above - very different.

"better" ball. the rampage is not a better ball; it just hooks more. could it be that the house is just using more oil OR not stripping the backends so there's carrydown??

the ambush is another degree stronger (handles more oil than the rampage);it's not better, not worse, just different.

you need to decide how much more ball you need.

I've talked to the lane guy and he says that they haven't changed anything..i didn't really mean a better ball but i guess really a ball to handle more oil...
