More sad bowling news:Brunswick closes it bowling pin plant

Just saw this in this issue of BJI; so it's really old news already.

Brunswick closed down its bowling pin plant in Antigo, WI on January 14th. From now on, it will contract the manufacture of its pins to the QubicaAMF plant in Lowville, NY. Brunswick said, "The industry has more capacity to provide pins than it can support."

The AMF plant is the last one in the United States that still makes wooden bowling pins.

Closing in on the end of yet another era.

I honostly am not surprised that one company closed doors but I am surprised that it was Brunswick. With how expensive pins are getting and how long they can last I saw this coming. The center that I use to work when they bought their last set of pins or two they bought from a company out of Canada. They were able to buy them a lot cheaper then Brunswick Pins or the AMF ones.

I know some of the loggers who lost their contracts and around 75-80 people lost their jobs in a northern community where viable employment is hard to find.

Bowled on Twisters yesterday and if this is the pin to be used in the future of bowling....I am glad I am older and don't have many years left bowling.  Very poor pin IMO.

eventually all the pins will be the plastic ones unfortuantly but wooden pins are expensive and the plastic ones last SO much longer and it will probably drop the scores a little whenever I have bowled with them.

With the Twisters, from what I've seen and experienced, you're fine as long as you don't hit the pocket (its tap-city)

The secret seems to be to just hit 'em light, and watch 'em fly!

hit light and you're almost guaranteed a strike.
Hit solid and you're almost guaranteed a stoned 7 pin or 8 pin (9 pin or 10 pin if you're lefty).

These pins FLY like the wind. Hit a sideboard and you'll think the sideboards are made of flubber.

Leastwise that was my experience last time I bowled on them. If I never see them again it will be too soon.

Bowl on Twisters 3 times a week in league.  They definitely take some time getting used to.  The previous comments are correct, light hits usually a strike.  High flush used to be strike, now 4-9.  Stone 9's and ringing 10's occur more than they should.  Owner's reasons for switching were cost and warranty.  Sorry for those that lost their livelihood.

Folks,

The point of this was not your personal problems with  scoring using Twister or all pastic pins. It was yet another manufacturing plant put out of business and more AMERICAN workers put out of worker with no alternative.
