First impressions - 3.5

So far i like what im seeing from my 3.5, the only problem i had was that it seemed VERY long.  I went pin over ring(4.5 p2p) with a 60º MB, i put a tiny bit of polish on it, then took most of it back off with a worn 4000 pad.

This ball felt like it went 50+ feet & jumped left.  It was fairly controllable, but i tend to like skid/flip balls, i just didnt intend for the 3.5 to be skid/flip.

I dont really want to go with more surface....maybe a little closer to actual 4000ab, but nothing lower than that.

Would a low weight hole give me any earlier of a read? Ive got a low hole in a lot of my stuff because it tends to give me more recovery off the dry without sacrificing what little hold i may have.

Anyone got a suggesion?

BTW, stats are 425-450rpms, 17-18mph

The point of surface is to get the ball to roll sooner and will take away some of the bite on the backends.

You drilled the pin above your fingers for length and a strong snap on the backend?

You add polish for length and a strong snap on the backend?

Now you want less length and snap on backend?

The best way to do that is by adding a little surface. 2000grit is not much surface. It does enough just to take the shine off the ball and thats about it. Same for 4000 grit. Try either on your hand, it feels like regular paper.

Well if you don't like it now and you don't want to change surface, then your limited on what you can do. Why not plug and re drill for a bit of a quicker response to friction?

First, try the low hole. Depending on what static weights you currently have in the ball (pre-hole), hopefully you can use a 1" bit and drill the hole 3" down your VAL from your PAP.

Then, please use surface changes in your favor. There is no reason to say "I don't really like to go with more surface". Every good bowler uses surface to their advantage. It can make the ball be what you want it to be.

I've brought my 3.5 down to 2000 and gotten the right response at Nationals.  I also have used the 3.5 with great success on the THS shot on my regular bowling center.  

I also have the 2.5 and found that it was too skid-flip at the OOB 4000 finish.  I just took it down to 2000 and toned down the excessive hard breaking angle and started to strike at will.

Both C-Systems take to surface adjustments beautifully so if you don't like the reaction, don't be afraid to experiment with different grits or polishes.  A lot depends on the way you roll the ball and matching up the surface with your release & ball speed.  When I stay behind the ball and roll it more end-over-end these balls the ball reads the lane & cruises into the pocket without rolling out.
