Without getting into the technical side of things, my situation is thus. The lanes here have been running on the dry side this season for some reason.
Lots of other guys ( guys with SPEED ) haven't been having any trouble, but that isn't me. Last league, I used an OI drilled with a slightly modified RICO ( pin is just above the midline ) drilling and won high average award for the year, and also bowled my first 800 series, an 813.
This year, that very same ball will not give me anywhere near the same reaction, and I havent been able to find anything that will let me score on a consistent basis. The house has changed the pattern this year, as well as the type of oil, and I just can't seem to get caught up. I have tried LOTS of balls ( for me anyway, about 20 ) and multiple drillings on some of them. The only thing that I have been able to maintain any semblance of consistency with is a crappy Ebonite Tornado warning.
It is mild enough to get through the dry, but the lack of any dynamics makes it very hard to carry on a consistent basis. I have maintained a 210 average, but I am getting really tired of getting my brains beaten out by guys throwing sanded "missiles" down the lane at 20 mph and carrying the world.
I was wondering. If this balls cover is as mild as the ebonite ball, but has vastly better dynamics, will I still be able to play about the same shot and carry better, or do you think it would facilitate a complete change in my line?
I don't need a LOT of flare, but it has become apparent that I do need some, so I was thinking of maybe using a lower flaring drill set up for a bit of "POP" on the backends? Maybe even a hook/set drill?
