My HS Tryouts ended. . .holy crap!
« on: October 24, 2006, 12:59:57 PM »
High school tryouts for the bowling team ended today. . .I have made it the last 2 years. The past years, a THS was layed out for tryouts. THIS year, a different sport shot pattern was layed out for all 3 days of tryouts. . .

1st day- X-mas tree, around 38-39ft.(not sure if that is precise though)
         Games-214, 279, 181=674  Ave-224.7
2nd day- 29ft shot
         Games-199, 215, 201=615  Ave-205
3rd day- 43ft shot
         Games-179, 209, 211=599  Ave-199.9
OVERALL AVERAGE-209.77777

I honestly can say I have been in 4 or 5 sport shot leagues and have never averaged near that. I mostly used my Absolute, Scorchin, and Radical for all 3 days. Came out with the #1 spot on the ave list, plus 1 more year on the team.
Time to add a 3rd Championship to the the schools history!

PS-LOOK OUT FCBowler, we got a REALLY good team this year!

Here, a match consists of 5 people from each team bowl 1 game at first. the low score is dropped on both pairs and the total pins are added up. The if the coaches want to, they can sub players out and put new ones in. Then we bowl another regular game, same as the last one. after, total pins are added up.
Then we bowl 2 baker games. After that, points are awarded to find the overall winner. here are the points. . .
-winners on 1st for 1st regular game.
-winners on 2nd pair for 1st regular game.
-winners on 1st pair for 2nd regular game
-winners on 2nd pair for the 2nd regular game
-winner of first baker game
-winner of second baker game
-total pins overall games combined

Each one of the above is worth 1 point. whoever has the most points at the end wins it all. Thats the format. At the State and Conference championships, it is different. You bowl the first 2 regular games same as above. After that, you are seeded and go into match play. Match play is baker games only, best of 3.

I'm really sorry, I was talking about the state singles.  That is very interesting though.  Our state team tournament is just 3 games and done.  If I'm not mistaken they do move after each game.  Now that I think about it more, the year that I bowled states it was just sit on a pair for the first three games both team and singles, now they at least make you move.

The other thing that is a bit unfair is that both singles and doubles are done in conjunction with one another, so if you make it in singles and team, your bowling with your team for the first thre games of qualifying.  I don't fully know who has the advantage, but if you have a good, loud team you can really get good momentum going, the flip side, if your team is struggling you may have to help the other bowlers / your team gets down and you may bowl poorly.  Even the mst calm collected bowlers, which I consider myself still are subject to momentum.  No matter how much you learn and how much score you put up, momentum can have it way.

Congrats on the nice bowling Chris. I'm going to try and get down there to see yall bowl some this year. I'm not sure who's left on the team that I would know, but it doesn't matter. Sounds like the program is running strong, just like it always has. Something to maybe mention to the coaches, Lindenwood is bowling college tournaments in Cincinnati in January and Indianapolis in February. It might do yall some good to come watch, and see how the best college teams in the country bowl together. It might help yall on the lanes. Who knows? PM me on here if you have a schedule of the matches for this season, that way I can plan on coming to a few. Good lcuk the rest of the season, and GO ROCKS!
