Quantums
« on: September 04, 2009, 01:07:13 AM »
I practice bowl at a house where I frequently see guys throwing the old Quantums.  9 times out of 10 they are absolutely tearing it up, no matter what the lane conditions are.  I know it's more the bowler and not the ball, but anything about that line that lends itself to the explosive carry I see?

They were very well designed balls, just a bit overpriced. I still have a Fire Quantum, and its core was used in the Brunswick Monster line: Bruiser, Slay/R.

Had several over the years and their greatest asset was control. They were very predictable and rolly. The origianl Cell reminds me so much of the Violet or Navy ones in the way it rolls.

The standard Mushroom core that was used in alot of them offered a great roll, kinda like the light bulb gave to the DZ at the time.

And it was the heyday of PK18. This coverstock, paired with the Mushroom cores, was a very good combo. Around here, some players also still use Quantums, e. g. the low diff. Fire Quantum or a Forest Green Quantum as an oiler.

I had an imperial quantum which is the purple one with the proactive coverstock and the mushroom core.  This was one of my favorite balls that Brunswick made.  I had bought a 2nd one once my original one died which is way before they created the revivor machine which helps the life of the balls today.  With my game of being a cranker and playing deep, I always liked the proactive / particle coverstocks because they are so much smoother than reactive balls.
