Did Big B stop making the BVPs?
« on: March 09, 2006, 03:19:06 PM »
I went to the shop last night to order a 13 lb Punsher and Nemisis for my daughter. My driller said "good luck" and that ever since Brunswick came out with the Scorchin they stopped making the BVP line of balls. Could there be some truth to this? He will try to find them but he doesn't think he can find a Punisher but the Nemisis he could probably get.

He said they were not discontinued but that Brunswick stoped making them while the Scorchin was being released. The timing of the release of the Scorchin was for the start of Nationals. Maybe they will start making them later.

I have heard a nasty rumor and not sure how true it is.  BUT.....I heard recently that apparently after the release of information pertaining to moving to Mexico, that they are suffering from a lack of employees (people quitting for fear of being laid off).  Therefore, instead of the plant working around the clock, they have only 1 shift going everyday and therefore production is WAY down.  Remember this.....not only does Brunswick make their own stuff, but they help produce MoRich stuff, Lane #1, and the Elite series balls.  If production is down by two thirds, keeping up with demand is going to be really difficult.  I know for a fact that getting Vapor Zones the past month has also been hard to come by.  I tried to get my hands on some Ambushes recently and my distributor said "Good luck".  Brunswick is having a difficult time keeping up at the moment.  In order to produce enough of the new stuff (Scorchin), they have to put back production on older, but still current stuff (Ambush, Vapor).

Like I said before, I believe this to be a rumor so far as I am not sure how true this information is.  Has anyone else heard of the same thing?

They have not discontinued nor stopped making the BVP line. My distributor has very few shortages, so let me know if you'd like me to send you a 13 of each.

With the Scorchin coming on so strong, that is really their first priority, because that is what distributors are demanding! They will trickle down the line with the rest of the backorders.

As of yet, I haven't had a BVP shortage.

Well half of my order came in. My shop was only able to get the Nemisis. The Punisher is out of stock. The shop deals with Steve Cook as their distributor so I guess they can't get it. My daughter has a Pepsi tourny next weekend so I will have to go with something else. The shop does have a Vapor Zone in 13 lb. Is that a comparitable ball to the Punisher? Would a Nemisis and Vapor Zone be a good combo? They have the Storm Hot Rod Super Sport in both solid and pearl I was also thinking about. Any ideas? Thanks.

She has a Scout Reactive now and while increasing a pound in weight, I also want to get her the next step up (so to speak) in technology. She is averaging 165ish with a 12 Hot Rod and the Scout.

Since the tourny is next weekend I have to buy something today. I will probably get the 2 Storm Super Sports. That is really what my daughter wants because of the fragrances. I don't care as long as they are a good tandem.

*Update*
Well we went to the shop to get the 2 Super Sports. Unfortunately the first guy that said I could have them did not tell the other guy. When we got there, the Pearl had been sold. Now what? I had a choice of the Vapor Zone and 2 balls that were basically the same. We got the Nemisis and decided to see if the Punisher would come in a little later. On the lanes, this ball was a monster. My daughter has never really swung the ball but she had to learn in a hurry. Anything close to the pocket carried. She never had action like this with her Hot Rod, I don't know if it is the heaver ball of just a better ball or what. This morning when I took it out to clean it and found 2 cracks going away from the thumb. I called the shop and he will replace it and she can use it until a new one comes in. He thinks the slug he put in caused it. Has anyone had cracking problems with their Nemisis? Thanks for any and all info.

Thanks for the updates guys!  Like I said before, I thought it was a rumor and not how sure how true it was.  I will be sure to pass on the information to others.

If the hole drilled for the slug isn't clean, then it could cause pressure on the ball by going in cockeyed. I've had Detours, Predators, and Apex's crack when tapping in the slug. It really depends how much chatter you get when drilling, and how well you clean up the hole to make it as straight cut as possible.
