Need a ball weaker than my Blazing
« on: July 13, 2005, 01:37:17 AM »
It's as simple as that. My Blazing Inferno (pin over bridge, cg kicked slightly into the negative) is great for lighter mediums, but it is still too much for truly dry. What Big B offering would best suit my needs? I was considering the Dry/R and Slay/R. Would either of these fit the bill? What else would you all suggest in this spot? Thanks for the help. Good luck and good bowling to all.

I heard that the Dry/R can be very strong, too, some people around here said it was even too strong to cope with short THS pattern with 7 dry outside boards. As far as I remember Brunswick recommends not to drill it too strong, since it might over-react (too strong move).
From the Slay/R I have ambiguous comments. Some love it due to its weak coverstock, others curse it since it can be very poppy in the backend when it hits dry boards or when you are not accurate with speed. Risky, I think.

You might also opt for a simple Urethane ball? It's not really fashionable, but will work fine. Brunswick has a Urethane Groove, and another ball with good performance on light to dry conditions is the (retired) Pure Hammer. It is Urethane with a hammer core. I have seen people having much success with it when the lane dries up. Hooking, yes, but smooth.
Another recommendation I got was the (also retired) Red Pearl Urethane Hammer. I got myself recently one for dry occasions, it is currently at the pro shop for plugging and new drill.

I hear the Dry/R drilled Rico1 is really smooth off the dry and doesn't over react. Also the PowerGroover Urathane would be a good choice also.

Gene, I had the slayr and was rather disappointed in it.  It hooked wayyy more than I thought it would.  I also had the PG(not dry/r) and it hooked a ton.  I would go urethane or plastic with a core.

I would not rule out the red pin ZC, but I've heard that it's still quite strong. I want something that will play on dry.

Thanks for all of the responses so far. Please keep them coming; I'm finding all of them helpful.

Red Pin--pretty strong
Slayr--step below that
PG--step below that

Thats what I've seen.

I am considering a pearl urethane for a tourney arsenal.
