Need Advice
« on: March 01, 2012, 08:19:25 AM »
Hello folks!

First off, let me just say this -
My high is 247.
My average is around 180.
My high series is 635.

This was all done with a T-Zone. So, my question is there a ball that works just like the T-Zone, but has more "punch" to it?

if you can get ahold of a taboo spare it is still a plastic coverstock with a big weight block in it that will get it to hit a little harder. if your looking to start hooking it a little the next step up would be a storm tropical breeze or the brunswick slingshot

If you're looking to move up, the Motiv Recon pearl would also be a solid choice.

I have the slingshot. Doesn't work as well for me.

I looked at some YouTube videos of the Taboo Spare. Seems very close to the strike path of my T-Zone. If it does hit harder, I'll definitely consider it. Thanks!

Anyone else with another idea? :)

The Motiv Recon looks good as well...if only there were a way to test them or something :(

After looking at some videos it seems like I'm leaning towards the Taboo. Seems like it doesn't have as much hook to it, am I right?

That's right, the Taboo spare ball won't hook as much as any of the reactive balls that have been mentioned.

Taboo spare hits extremely hard. So does any of the XXXL Lane 1 balls. Same principle, polyester cover with a higher end weight block.

perhaps a silly question, but: is the taboo spare meant for spares? the videos I've seen have shown strikes, but since "spare" is in the name I was unsure...

Right now that looks like my leader.

It's a polyester ball, hard and with little traction, intended to go straight even if you put some rotation on it. That's what all polyester balls are basically made for. There are just some exceptions like the Tabooo Spare or Lane #1's XXXL which feature a dynamic core. This stabilizes the ball's bath when you hit it with some revs, and makes the ball suitable as a strike ball on rather dry lanes, when reactives (even so weak orbs like a Slingshot or a RX1) are simply too much and grab the lane too early.

By the way, do you play with a fingertip release, or do you use a conventional (house ball) layout? Just curious, since you state that your reactive ball does not "work" for you? The "punch" you are looking for rather comes from the release, not the ball itself.

Thought about Urethane?  No plastic ball even with a core is going to give you that much extra "punch" because they won't grip the lane after the oil gets carried down.

The Avalanche Urethane is a pearl and is less aggressive/slower off the friction than the Slingshots.

But I guess the $1,000,000 question is do you hook the ball on really dry lanes or just hum it up the middle?

I would say my strike path follows something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDuXFBFOHcU

I don't use my thumb. I only use about an inch on my middle and index finger.
