Revamping the lineup for this year. Trying to keep from having too much overlap. What I have in the closet:
Tsunami
Strike Zone
Violet Classic
Ambush
Red Pin Classic
Depth Charge
NIB Rampage
What I have in my bag at the moment:
Radical Inferno
Smokin Inferno
Basically everything I have reacts well, and with the exception of the Strike Zone, my Radical covers everything better than the other balls I have. There'd be no point in drilling the Rampage either. I hadn't planned on using my Strike Zone though, it's just way too erratic. I need something with some surface though. I'm thinking of a Scorchin or another Ambush. I put a flare reducing weighthole in my first Ambush and polished it when I got my first Scorchin, so the Ambush I have is quite a bit weaker now. Planning on trading in my Rampage towards the purchase of either one, so the money thing isn't an issue. I was THINKING about a Red Zone (since I haven't had one), but asymmetrics have always been tricky for me. Usually a big hit or a big miss. First SZ was great, second one sucked. Red Pin is great, the Violet is marginal. First Super Charge was great, second one is horrible. Depth Charge was good. Tsunami was good. If I go with a Red Zone, I need to talk layout, if I go Scorchin or Ambush, I've got that covered.
I like the control I had with both the Scorchin and Ambush. The Zones tend to go longer and be more angular, but I've had quite a bit of success with asymmetrics I match up with, and I'm more confident with them when the oil is heavier, they make up a lot of ground quickly on the backend. I'm LEANING towards the Red Zone, but I'm just worried. I already know what the Scorchin and Ambush do, so if I miss with the Red Zone, I'm gonna be stuck with just the Smokin and Radical (which really wouldn't be that bad of a deal, lol).
I haven't experimented with psa out drillings on asymmetrics, but they seem to work well. My Time Zone was pin above bridge, psa out, and it kinda hook/set, and I didn't really like it, so I think I got scared of the psa out thing, when it was probably the pin position that was at fault. I THINK psa in drillings tend to save a little too much energy for what I want, and burn up energy too quickly on the backend. If the ball is ready to hook when it hits dry, not much energy loss, right? My Red Pin is drilled ring under pin, psa in my thumb, and I love it. But, my first Strike Zone was stacked, and it was good. My second was identical, but it was terrible. My Violet is stacked, and it used to roll great (300 with it last year), but it kinda does the hook/set thing now. I kicked out the psa on my Tsunami a bit further, but it's still stacked, and reacts well. I'm THINKING of matching my Red Pin drilling, or possibly going pin over ring, and kicking the psa the opposite direction. My pap is 5 3/4ths over and 3/8ths up. I track close to the middle finger and thumb, my first flare ring starts about a half inch to 3/4ths of an inch from both. Speed is about 17.5 and revs are about 300-325. I play more of an inside out shot, I don't over-rev or kill the ball at the line and I don't rely on a strong reaction on the backend to pull the ball back. Past the foul line, think Steve Jaros, that's the kind of roll I have. Help!
