Twist or Alley Cat

We have light short patterns where I bowl and even a rhino can jump off the spot too much. In fact my buddy went plastic over his rhino yesterday.
I want to recommend a ball for a first time hooker
Twist or dv8 Alley cat... Who you got for light short oil?

 A couple of friends and I have been having a similar discussion.
We believe, with some help from Brunswick people, that the Alley Cat is roughly halfway between a Rhino and a Twist in oil handling and overall hook. The AC and the Twist have a more controlled backend than the Rhino.

As for a good beginner's ball, a lot depends on their ball speed and their rev rate. It could be the Twist or it could be the Rhino. You don't want too mild a ball yet you want it to be controllable. All 3 Brunswick balls are very controllable.

I've actually been wondering about this myself the last couple of days. I had forgotten about the Alley Cats. Moved back to So. Cal and the issue I keep running into is even my Rack Attack Pearl can be a little too much cover for me in certain houses.

On top of the Twist and Alley Cats I've been searching eBay for some older balls in good condition but haven't seen much yet.

Great question.  How do the 900 Global After Dark (solid & pearl) compare to the Rhino, Alley Cat and Twist.
The S30 cover (weak) is built for dry lanes.
Anyone care to comment?

From what I have seen of tests (BTM and BJI ) and several videos from reliable sources, I would hazard a guess that the After Dark's S30 coverstock is a .... highly modified S30. Based on my personal experiences with 900G and the original Columbia S30s, s40, s43 and SuperFlex coverstock , this new "S30" is a 1/2 to a full step stronger. Not too many polished balls, with the above coverstocks, and with medium high RG (~2.55) and low differential (.030) can handle true medium oil, like many people say the After Darks do.

I have no proof; I just suspect this is true.

I would suggest that the After Dark pearl is close to the Rhino, in general, with maybe slightly more backend. The solid probably handles a little more oil and is about as smooth as the Rhino (not a flippy ball, in general)

Having not gotten mine yet, and knowing how my Link rolled and my Desert Hook rolled, I'll agree that this motion, while still clean, is stronger looking that I had anticipated. My Link ignored the first 40 feet, then went left turn Clyde. This weightblock looks to be less flippy, but it still moves. IF you wanted an After Dark (And honestly, why wouldn't you??), I'd hit it with some surface to knock off the shine and lay the core down, something like a 2 inch pin to pap.

We have Sahara conditions PLUS you cant throw from the left or you hit the dry in the middle arrow so you MUST go lower than a .30 diff.
Im going to recommend this guy gets the Twist because hes throwing higher weight slower. I have another guy throwing lower weight faster I'll probably recommend the alley cat or the numerous amounts of .30 diff entry level balls out there
Rhino, Nitrous, Turbo\R, Match Ups, Inks etc.
Im excited about the Twist, I may use it myself as a step down from the BTU pearl thats the best ball ever made for the dry. As of now I have the Hammer Widow spare for strikes, thats how bad it gets here.

I just got my After Dark solid drilled and tested and all I can say is WOW!
I have the 900 Global Desert Hook with the weak S30 cover which is great on a torched lane condition.
However, the After Dark solid with the S30 cover combined with the new core is super strong. I had to play farther left than my GB2 MVP (hybrid) or my Storm Match solid.  Never expected that to happen.
Since I don't have a Rhino, Alley Cat, or Twist I cannot make a comparison, except to say the 900 Global After Dark is much stronger and I mean much stronger than I anticipated. I will  go out on a limb here and state the After Dark is not in the same category as the Rhino, Alley Cat, or Twist. 
Please post your experience if different than what I experienced.

This is exactly my thought, as well. Scuff the cover a bit to get it to slow down on the backend, and lay the core down, almost like a pin/axis drilling but not quite!

Thanks for sharing, based on the stats I felt that the 900s were gonna be at least as strong as a rhino. I CANNOT play left at this house. Im really looking forward to seeing my friends twist. Hes getting a 14 & thats what I throw so I'll be able to directly compare it to a BTU pearl, Rhino, Motiv Rebel tank & a Hammer Widow Spare.

Last night couldnt use my BTU, I had to loft like crazy & still very hard to stay right of headpin. Plastic was my fall back & it was OKAY but without any reactive resins it just cant carry or bounce off dry.

My friend is getting a Twist & now it looks like Im getting one too. Looking forward to this. The gap between BTU Pearl & plastic is too big.

Compare the twist to the Brunswick BTU last night as well as the motiv rebel tank and the results on a short oil very dry pattern was the twist being the strongest.  It jumps Pretty strong off the dry , immediate change in direction. 2 BTU goes as long but doesn't have the sharp break it's just better for the dry Lanes having something without polish the rebel tank surface is just a little smoother making it about 3 boards weaker than the btu which is three boards weaker then the Twist Off the Super dry.  If I had to do it all over again between the twist in the alley cat I would probably buy the Alley Cat which will have amore even smooth shape then the twist but what I probably need is the tactic control for the dry Lanes because I wouldn't consider either Alley Cat or twist something for short oil and dry Lane combo
