What ball would be similar to the Ramgage?
« on: September 12, 2012, 12:25:52 PM »
I am looking for a ball that would mirror the reaction of the Rampage. I was looking at the swarm and to me the numbers look close but I would like some more opinions. For all you Brunswick gurus out there can you give me some help??? Thanks.
Todd.

probably the blue/green karma pearl. they share the same cover, but of course different cores. that will probably be the best option you'll be able to get your hand's on.

The Rampage is a hybrid (red-solid, gold-pearl) that I liked a lot as well. The only hybrid that I can think of right now is the DV8 Marauder.  The Marauder will probably be a little stronger and more angular, but you could tweak the surface to smooth it out if needed.

On the Marauder the red is pearl and the yellow is solid, so opposite from the Rampage.  When the Rampage was released years ago the term "hybrid" was not commonly used in the industry, so just like it's hybrid predecessor the Monster Bruiser, Brunswick did not use that term in it's marketing materials.

There are a few balls that could give you a similar reaction with the right layout and surface prep.  One that comes to mind for me is the Karma pearl (pink-purple) because of it's fairly strong cover (Activator +) that has proven to be a durable, performing coverstock.  If you could find a Loaded Revolver that would also be close, although a tad stronger, too.  Let me know if I can help with layout suggestions or ideas.  Good luck.

This is a private label remake of the Rampage:

Blue/green Karma Pearl might be close....if you can find it.  I was able to find one place:

Swarm numbers are a little closer, but core shape is completely different.  Some industry insiders will tell you they can manipulate the core numbers, but actual core shape has more influence on reaction.  Not sure how much different the reaction will be from a rectangular block shape versus a bell shape.

Apparently everybody is going the way of Amazon Marketplace......I guess it's cheaper than using ebay?  I've seen it on Newegg and Buy.com.

Rampage was a great ball, with PK 18 cover.  You have to be careful when saying you want something similar.  Do you mean something that reacts the way the rampage acted when new, or the way a rampage still reacts assuming you are still throwing it. When the Rampage was introduced, oils and volumes used were a lot different than what they have evolved to now.

Situation is not unlike the Absolute Inferno ( a very strong pearl when introduced ) and the Anaconda, a remake that was a nice ball, but didn't react nearly as strong on todays oil volumes as did the orginal.

Thanks for all of the help guys. avabob I am looking for a ball for a good friend of mine. He still throws the rampage when there is enough oil. If its a light oil shot he throws a slingshot. He likes piping it up the 10 to 12 board. Last week he tried to throw the rampage but it was too strong. He switched to his slingshot and rolled a 300 in the last game. He wanted to find another rampage because he has a lot of games on his current rampage and wants a replacement for the day his ball dies. I guess that means mirroring the way the rampage looks today.

Todd, along with the Blue/Green Karma Pearl, you might also look at the DV8 Misfit line. I know they are supposed to be low-end balls but the Misfit I have looked similar to what I remember seeing from the rampage. The Misfits are stronger than advertised. The Green/White Misfit in particular seems to be the favorite of the line and has had a great deal of success.

Another possible dv8 option could maybe be a too reckless. It would be significantly stronger but it is new age solid with polish. Could make it similar with different drilling patterns.
