neeed ball suggestion
« on: January 15, 2014, 11:49:50 AM »
Im looking for a ball to do 2 things. Perform on super dry conditiins when the lanes are fried...but also maybe perform as a spare ball no matter the oil condition. Basically a very weak reactive ball. Not necessarily brunswick but I like these balls and dv8 as well. Also had luck with global  and storm. Pretty open minded.

I would suggest a Strike King. If you can find one even the Karma Urethane. not knowing your bowling type, but if you are looking for super fried lanes, you may want to drill the Strike King on the weaker side.

Storm Super Natural or Natural Pearl. If you're really talking fried and/or spare ball I would definitely go urethane

Low-mid range reactive with higher rg's and polish.
Strike King, Misfit Yellow, Ringer/platinum are all good options as they will clear the fronts well so long as you don't mind moving your feet in as the lanes dry up.
If you would rather camp and have less of a margin for error, then urethane will do just fine  ;)

Do the Super Natural.  Urethane cover but has a solid core as opposed to a pancake weight block.  I would definitely go in that direction.

Right now the weakest ball I have is a storm fringe . So maybe even something like a melee and polishing it more

I believe the best ball for you would be a 900 global Desert Hook

Strike King would be my recommendation. Excellent on the dry!  The black one is as sexy as a bowling ball can get, too.

Based on my interpretation of what you described, there is no such ball available today. All of the covers on modern reactive balls are far too strong for super dry/fried lanes and perform as a spare ball no matter the oil condition. Plastic hooks too much for my definition of super fried lanes. No longer available, but something like a Storm Hit might be close. I've not thrown a Super Natural, but I've never liked urethane when the entire lane is dry. You do have a good bit of tilt, but with your ball speed, I'm not sure if urethane is a good match.

Nails,

I'm not intending to argue with you, but it depends on your release. I can roll any reactive ball end-over-end and it will go straight.  Reactive balls respond to the rotation supplied by the bowler. If the ball has zero side rotation it will go straight.

No offense taken at all. You are correct. Since the OP wanted something good for a spare ball when there was no oil, I made the assumption that he was going to use his standard release. If he was planning on going end over end, I wouldn't think he'd be looking for another ball; at least for spares. I still prefer plastic to save wear and tear on my strike balls. I've thrown several of the balls already mentioned and all would be too strong for fried lanes in my opinion.
