Mine was right around 9 seconds, so pretty close if not the same to the Other zones (classic/red pin/impulse).

Most bowling balls are on the lane surface for about 2 1/2 to 3 seconds. Why is the spin rates we hear about relevant? 5.0... 8.5... etc... the ball isn't in play long enough for the ball to hit the preferred spin, so why care???

Well think about this, since the ball is only in contact with the lane for that short amount of time, wouldnt you want a ball that would reach its PSA faster ??

ball 1: 5 sec PSA
ball 2: 9 sec PSA

9-5 = 4 sec weaker

I sure wouldnt want the ball with the weaker core

No, you are thinking about this the wrong way.

Spin time is just another measure of how strong the mass bias is in a ball/how fast a ball will roll up on the lane, nothing more. Spin time has nothing to do with throwing the ball with the revs a real person does, it is calculated on a machine called a determinator that spins the ball much faster than most of us can rev the ball. They place the ball on an angle that the core would not be placed during a drilling as well (increasing the time it takes for the ball to reach its psa).

It is so hard to explain exactly what all of this means, but just know that it has nothing to do with how long it is on the lane or "if it spins faster it is a better ball." The inferno's can spin for at least 20 seconds, yet would you call those bad balls?

Ric,

Thanks for the info. How does spin time equate to storing or bleeding energy down the lane? Also doesn't spin time change with the drilling of a ball?
