Ball Comparisons
« on: January 13, 2011, 12:58:26 AM »
I am new to Brunswick and I am picking up some "older" balls (Revolver, Seige, 4.5) as well as a couple of newer (Anaconda and Wicked) pieces.   I just wanted an overall comparison between them to get some ideas of how to lay them out to not have much overlap. I doubt I will leave the Siege and Revolver at box finish so factor that into the comparisons.  Really looking for strength of coverstock and versatility (i.e. ability to chase the oil left and not loose carry).

Without knowing certain specifics (i.e. rev rate, oil pattern/volume, what you have now that you are replacing or reactions that you like but are trying to substitute newer stuff), it's hard to get real specific. Based on what you have listed I would recommend going this route: Layout the 4.5 with a tall pin (5-6" from PAP), put it over the fingers, and keep shiny. The 4.5 is pretty long for a Bruns ball anyway. The Anaconda should have a shorter pin (4-5" from PAP) distance, up over the fingers. This is basically a remake Absolute Inferno, so for a pearl it reads early, and is more smooth at the break, so you might want to try to get it shinier to compliment the 4.5. The Wicked, should be pin up (4-5") with the box surface. This should be a benchmark ball you can start with to read the pattern and adjust to it. It doesn't hurt that this is also a really good versitile piece. The Revolver, I would leave box or make it smoother, but no polish. Use a 4-5" pin up over the fingers as it should be earlier and not as sharp as the Wicked. The Seige should have a shorter pin 3-4", you can even put it under the fingers. If you do need a surface adjustment, make it rougher so it doesn't get too close to the Revolver.

Thank you.  I apologize, I thought I had updated my profile after the switch to the new site.  However, your information is extremely helpful.  My natural axis rotation is relatively high (around 60*) but can easily be varied.  So I will probably be going pin low for most except possibly the 4.5 and Wicked.   Getting the ball to corner is not an issue for me
