Seems a little odd to me that Columbia has a void and the first ball we hear about since the Dynamic Swing is a ball already in their lineup.

What is the actual utility of something like The Spy? I know polyester balls with big cores have been made in the past but they've never really been very popular around here.

Does adding the core allow these kinds of balls to carry through the pins? I have a hard time imagining any kind of polyester cover picking up enough to provide consistent motion. Unless the lanes are absolute toast, but I'm not sure I would want to carry around that kind of break-glass-in-case-of-emergency option for those few odd nights or long-form tournaments.

These types of balls are great for bowlers with really slow ball speed, or rev-dominant players that want a longer option.  The core really allows the ball to rev up and get through the pins.

It can also be carried as a spare ball for medium to heavy shots and then do double duty if needed for a totally burned up shot.

Yup. Exactly. This saw some major use when the Taboo Spare and True Blood came out. Both were able to be used on completely burned up shots when no-one could keep a ball from checking and rolling out at center arrow. I've kept my True Blood at the ready because of that.

Agreed.  Still some old guys out there that love the game but can't throw most of the balls on the market because they hook at their feet.  Polyester with a core helps the ball to roll but without overreacting to the dry as aggressively.  They don't work for most of us other than on extremely dry conditions or as a spare ball. 

Phil said on Facebook that there is an additive package in the polyester cover, my question is, will that essentially make the ball urethane or a “polythane” type of cover?
