Vapor Zone for a High-Track Stroker?
« on: February 24, 2006, 02:04:45 AM »
I like what I read about the Vapor Zone. Currently, a Crimson Executioner is the only pearl I own, because I generally prefer solid reactives. I like the Executioner because it has a low enough RG and high enough flare to keep it from squirting too far. My normal first ball out of the bag is a Lane 1 Blueberry, drilled 4.5x5 label. I also use a Rule Delta One (pin over ring, MB 1" right of thumb) when the condition is wetter, or I want to play further inside.

I am a high-tracker (PAP 5.5" over by 1" up) with decent revs and medium-slow speed. I get all of my revs from coming up the back with a strong wrist position, and I normally use 30 to 45 degrees of axis rotation. I never play down and in on a THS. I have to swing the ball some, unless the outside is wet.

My thinking on the Vapor Zone is that I would swing the locator pin around toward my PAP for an earlier roll.

I take 4 balls with me, and one is always a Blue Dot for right-side spares. I'm thinking that a VZ, Blueberry, and Rule Delta One would cover most anything my house is likely to put out and give me three distinct ways to get to the pocket.

Any thoughts on how the VZ might work for me?

Thanks,
CK

I think I can give some info.. I have 2 Vapors drilled exactly the same with pin position - 4 1/2, but the Locator Pin on one is at 30deg, in the strong position just right on my thumb.  The other is on my axis.  Now I am a lower track than you 4 1/2 by 7/8 up, but I can tell you that the Vapor with the Locator pin on my axis is a truck.  It doesnt flip as hard as the other one but still arcs HARD on the backend.  The ball reads the midlanes very well as is very predictable.  The Vapor will let you play inside on the house shot, but will also allow you to square up a little on the tougher patterns and still give you a consistent look.

I dont know much about your other gear, but if you ask me, it doesnt matter what you have - The Vapor is a good choice for any arsenal.

hope this helps

Carolina,
I am very close to you stat wise. To me my Vapor plays more like a benchmark type of reaction. I can usually get a good read on the condition with this ball and gauge the backends right away.

I drilled up my Vapor with the pin at 4.5 and the secondary pin at a 55 degree angle and a weight hole on my axis. I get a great midlane read and can play a lot of places on the lane with this layout with the exception of straighter down the boards or swinging it deeper than the 4th arrow. I have to "take" my hand out of it more to get it thru the fronts cleaner to go up the boards with this layout. I also have to try to keep a strong wrist and turn it more to get deeper which is a limitation of my ability more than the ball.

"Tell me Cup, how does a great ball striker like you shoot an 83? Well I lipped out this putt on 18......"
