New Rhino review- non staff member
« on: January 29, 2017, 04:19:46 PM »
I ordered a 16lb silver/blue/black Rhino and threw it the first time Friday night.  I bowl at St Clair bowl in Fairview Heights IL. I am a right hand  tweener,  med hi revs and bout same in speed. My go to line is usually 3rd arrow to 5th board and back.

Started practice with my cell pearl and it was reacting good but I knew it would be hooking too much by the 2nd game.  Decided to try the Rhino.  Drilled pinup over ring finger in OOB condition.  Threw the 1st ball at about 8 to 3.  I got worried because you can easily see the rotation on this color combo and didn't  seem like I was going to make the pocket. The ball gradually made its way into the pocket. A very nice slow hooking pearl.  Being my first time ever throwing this ball,  I was kind of nervous each shot.  Every ball was that slower very controlled curve.
The only time I started having trouble was the 3rd game.  The lanes were burning up and I just didn't trust myself moving left.  But,  I gradually did force myself and ended up playing my bread and butter line.  Even at these angles,  the ball had a controlled hook.
Now the interesting part I found was the hitting power.  I'm not going to say it hits like a truck because even a house ball thrown into the pocket destroys the pins. This ball did howeverhad the hitting power of a hi end ball and maybe even better FOR ME!!  The ball kept the pins super low on the deck.  I haven't had a ball keep pins this low.  I had several shots that would have left solid 7 pins but the pins stayed low and wiped it out.  Opposite of that,  I had several shots that would have been light mixers or very weak 10 pin.  The rack exploded back like a solid strike.
This ball is going to be a sleeper for alot of people and a savior for tourny bowlers.  This is my first ever true Brunswick ball (i have a dv8 ruckus)  and it really impressed me.

Thanks for the review. Just what I needed!
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

My Rhino is "Rico'd", and once I broke the surface it has been very, very good.  Out of the box it was too shiny, and not a great match for me, but now it is an excellent option.

I wanted something to play in the dry.  Long with nice curve in the pocket. When I play my Grenade up 5, it gets over under pretty quick.  Wanted this ball to be a little more usable. As I said before,  its only 3 games in but seems like a good choice.  The lanes that night broke down and got dry.  Usually we have good amount of oil to play on.
