Heavy Oil Ball Comparison...Input wanted
« on: April 05, 2006, 12:34:34 PM »
Hey all,

I currently own a 16lb storm paradigm drilled with the pin about 1" above the ring finger and a balance hole 2.5" to the right of the CG and about 4.5-5" from the pin.

I'm looking to get a ball for very heavy oil conditions. Our lanes here at the U. of Maryland tend to have very extreme conditions at many times (sometimes including absolutely no oil and at other times, 2 or 3 coats) I've narrowed my search down to 4 balls and I'd like to get some feedback on which would be best for me. I've narrowed it down to:

Storm - Paradigm Passion
Brunswick - Scorchin' Inferno
Track - Robo Rule
Roto Grip - Epic Battle

I'd especially appreciate feedback from those who have used more than one of these balls.

I tend to throw fairly hard and have had to slow down my shot at times with the paradigm in heavy oil situations.

Thanks in advance,
Rich

EDIT:

I forgot to add...I'm more of a cranker-tweener

my paradigm has 4-4.5" pin placement, 2.68oz top weight

I would give my unbiased opinion and say the schorchin would be best out of those! I would also recomend a Morich Seek and Destroy!

Lane #1 Black Cherry Bomb...  would be your best bet, but if I had to pick one of the ones you listed...

Robo Rule first, Passion 2nd..

Epic Battle. We drilled about 10 at my shop, and 4 were for guys who throw it hard. This ball was STRONG. As long as you drill it sttrong, you will have a particle ball that is clean in the front and will dominate heavy oil. OFr the drilling, get the Pin under your fingers and get the Mass Bias kicked out at least 3 inches from your thumb.

I would honestly recommend the Action from Columia300... reasons for this.

It actually is just as strong as the scorching inferno, but it is a 1200 grit finish which means if you want to sand it to 1000 or 600 like the Scorching, it will be even stronger...

I shot 299 last week and 766 tonight with it... its a really really strong fast reving oil ball that can actually be made even stronger with a simple grey pad.

I hit mine with a grey pad, taking it to around 1000 grit and its utterly unstoppable.

Arsenal:

EPX-T1 - Flooded oil
Super Carbide Bomb - Heavy oil
Ultimate Inferno - Heavy oil
Action - Heavy oil
Inferno - Heavy to Medium oil
Action Packed - Medium oil
Smoking Inferno - Medium to dry
Blue Dot - Spare ball

Never tried the Epic Battle or the Passion. I have the Scorchin' drilled label leverage and this ball is really strong if left OOB, and snaps hard on the backend for me. I've tried my friends Robo Rule and it's about the same on the backend but overall, I think the Scorchin' is a little stronger. Just my opinion.

having bowled on the same lanes as a scorchin using my big one i would have to add that ball to your mix,if u dont ming cleaning and or soaking it very often. could have been the way i was bowling but line for line shot for shot my big one found the pocket where the scorchin was all over the lane doing everything but striking on a shot that i saw many different balls not find the mark.Watched a guy using the uranium carbide bomb playing up the one board and hoping, total shock and awe was shocked and dismayed , i am bo the best bowler not even close ,but on that day those conditions it was the big one,in fact the guy that won the tourney and 4 of the top 5 were using the big one.
