Is this a good THS 2-ball arsenal??
« on: December 31, 2007, 08:55:01 AM »
First: Happy New Year everybody!!!..

Now, both balls are Red Zones, similar layout, inbox surface both, (about 1/2" inch pin-pap distance difference= ball1->4.5", ball2->5") THS condition, med revs-speed-track. Thanks.

ball1: (4.5", xhole past pap, like 1/2 oz neg.)

ball2: (5", no xhole)

For me? NO!

For you? I still wouldn't think so.  The red zone is assymetric, so the cg ( if it mattered at all in the first place ) would matter even less in this ball, as will the ending static weights.

That being said, the pin position and the mb position seem to be very similar, too similar to give me the difference I would need to cover changing conditions.  I would most likely get very similar reactions from these two balls. The 5 in. pin-to-pap will give you a bit more natural distance, but not as much as you might think once the lanes start breaking down.

To maximize the differences, I would take ball two ( 5 in. p-to-p ) and highly polish it while also adding a flare reducing X-hole.  I might also finish ball one ( 4 1/2 p-to-p ) at a duller finish, perhaps 2000 abralon for a bit earlier read.  I would endeavor to make the differences between these two balls as great as possible, thereby giving them a wider range of variance between their reactions.

When you are trying to cover a range of conditions, you want equipment that gives you different reads of the conditions and I would need more variance in reactions between balls than these will give to help me cover a wide enough range of conditions.

P.S. Now, you DID say a THS.  If you only need something to give you just a BIT different read, these will do that.  Most THS don't break down so bad that you can't make minor adjustments as you go and this pair might give you enough for that, but I would need/prefer more difference personally.
