I don't consider myself a Brunswick guy. I generally like RG equipment. Having said all that, I am not above using whatever works best, in whatever condition. I recently went in to my library and pulled out a couple of old favorites. My 15lb. Red Alert and a 15lb. Shock Zone.

Last night I averaged 240 with my Shock Zone, on a lite oil condition. In the last three weeks I have been averaging about 235-238 with my Red Alert. These two pieces were, and still are heavy hitters for me when it comes down to iffy lane conditions. They are especially reliable on fresh THS conditions as well.

I find that all these super strong new balls require so much surface/coverstock tuning to get them to be useable on my particular lane conditions, that it was comforting to just pick up a ball, throw it, and automatically know what kind of reaction I was going to get, wtihout having to go to my spinner.

Exactly. I'm not sure where people bowl that require some of todays super soakers, but most lower end equipment is more then perfect. The current Karma series is a great example. Even the Slingshot on most THS is great and doesn't require you to move after a game.

My current favorite ball that I'm stocking up on is the Wicked Siege. The ball is so clean through the heads with a very consistent and angular back end that is very predictable. I can play an area with this ball for a long time and rarely have to move much. The ball with a little polish reminds me a lot of the classic go long and snap bowling balls from the 90s.

I agree on the old Brunswick pieces. I can pretty much guarantee that my older pieces will work on almost everything I ever see, whether it's my Rhino Pros or Quantums.

But I have to say the newer Brunswick pieces are incredibly impressive. The Massive Damage alone works for me on anything but real heavy fresh or bone dry.

I'm a big fan of the oldies, but don't knock the new Big B pieces until you try them!

+1. IMHO, you can get along VERY well with a Solid Karma with some surface (and maybe with a pin down layout) and a polished Pearl Karma (with a high pin). While more modern stuff may hook more or be entertaining to watch, older stuff like PK 18 or also 17 is just more predictable off the spot. Very underrated stuff, at least from the mediocre bowler's point of view, or for bloated egos.

I think from a long time ago you and I were Shock Zone Pro fans. I no longer have mine.

OR my Pro Zone Violet which I believe is the same core. Not sure. That Pro Zone Violet was a 279 machine for me. If I had one with that I had 20! That's why I had to get rid of it!

I almost think the core in that Pro Zone Violet, Shock Zone, and Impact Zone (crackly old PK 19) were all the same one! I LOVED that core in each ball!

In addition...I loved the Jade Quantum. Just threw a ball the other day that reminded me of the Jade in roll.

Columbia Total Bedlam! Drilled for someone else. See if I still think that after getting it plugged and redrilled! That Jade was SO readable all the way down the LANE!

Good to hear from you! Hope all is well. Yup, you are correct....in fact I am using the Shock Zone that you sold me!! It is a gem, indeed. There is a guy in my Monday night league that has been using a Rhino Pro since, from around 1996, (just a guess) and it still hits......and still gives that same predictable move downlane! Seeing that, and also watching the motion on a lot of the new Motiv balls, clued me into pulling out my retro stuff to counteract a lot of over/under reactions I had been getting. Unfortunately, me and the new Columbia stuff do not match up well.

I have been seeing a lot of players scoring and scoring well, with that Karma line. Those pieces are definite keepers in my book. And the Seige line was smooth as silk when matched on the right conditions. Of all the other Big B pieces out, I think the Nexxus line shows the most promise. I was never impressed with 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 chemistry experiment balls. And that Slingshot reminds me too much of a little smoother Scout Reactive. Since I am speed challenged, I have to customize my dry lane stuff a little more, for carry purposes.

Alas, I actually gave away my Jade Quantum! That was a big mistake. Anyway, good to hear from you. Happy bowling!

I wonder if I am right in stating the ProZone Violet, Shock Zone, and the Impact zone all had the same core!

I could bowl with those all day! Would only have to add one more and I'd be ready to roll!
