Sure, if the layout that you want means that you need to have the pin "in the ring" or drill into part of it; I'd just be careful about getting the pin within 1/2" of the ring finger hole because it creates the potential for the ball to crack in that area (at least that's what I've heard and have actually seen in a few cases).
My 2 cents on your question ...
BTW, my World Class particle is drilled "pin in the ring".

I believe last time I knew that voided all warranties! But I have done it before, nothing wrong with it.. just make sure you drill out the whole pin!

A good tip is to use a 5/8" bit to drill the pin out and act as a pilot hole. Drilling the pin can be fairly rough and difficult.

I agree. Do NOT drill out part of it. It will crack and chip; drill out the whole pin or place it 1" from the nearest hole.

To be TOTALLY safe, adhere to the advise in the previous thread reply ... that being said, I guess that it just depends upon who you get your info from; I have heard (from reliable sources) to stay at least 1/2" from the pin, and that if you get closer than that, drill part of it out or drill it completely out.

This probably doesn't apply to today's equipment, but years ago I drilled out the pin on an Out Rage.  I got a little bit in and hit an undrillable nugget beneath the pin.  I had to drill small holes around it and finally pulled it out with pliers.  Anyone else done this before?

For Brunswick made balls, the pin is just a marker in the coverstock. Below often there's a space. Holes are usually drilled at angles; so that 1" spacing can help avoid having the hole hit an air pocket below the pin in the filler underneath.

As I sit here, I "stand" corrected; this advise was specific to the brand ... and of course the question was for a ball of a specific brand too.

Kman-

Yes, some of the rage bowling balls had a disclaimer in the drilling instructions to NOT drill into the pin! That was something that columbia was doing back then, I don't recall exactly what it was. But I had a friend who tried it and didn't have much success!

I believe they were experiementing with Ceramic pins.  They didn't want people to drill into them or within a 1" diameter of it for some reason.  To the drillers out there, ever got bored and drilled the pin out, then plugged it with a different color?  I remember I had a green white dot(2001 model) with no "white dot" so I drilled a small hole the size of a pin over the bridge and plugged it white.  I had people asking me all the time how the hell I got a white dot with the pin out.

Yeah, the Rages were before my time so I didn't know about the disclaimer.  Luckily, it was a ball I plugged and redrilled just for the hell of it.

Any of the Columbias with the Power Point pin had the ceramic pin that would thrash drill bits trying to drill into them. I saw what happened when a driller just clipped the pin on a blue pearl Pulse once and needless to say he had to get the drill bit repaired.

I do this on a regular basis for one of my customers.  He HATES to see anything on his ball when it is going down the lane, so he colors out the labels, uses grips the same color of the ball, and has me drill out his pin so it matches the ball color as well

No problem. In fact, it is even safer than drilling a hole close by the pin of touching it with the hole, either on the ball surface or deeper down. The thin surface areas might crack. You can avoid this if you go down dircetly through the pin - I have a SR 300 drilled this way.
