Nick! Drillings for Absolute and Scorchin?!
« on: February 20, 2006, 03:14:33 PM »
And anyone else that might happen across this topic . . suggestions please.  All I have right now is a Classic Zone Red Pin and an Ambush.  They're both drilled almost the same.  Classic is pin above ring, and the PSA is dead center in my thumbhole, with a weighthole about 2 1/2 inches right, and an inch and a half down from my ring finger.  My Ambush has the ring finger diagonally below and to the left of the pin, and the cg is about an inch and a half right of my grip center (if it had a PSA, my thumb would be just to the left of it.  Both balls roll incredibly, but naturally there's a pretty big difference in hook potential.

I figured the Absolute (polished) would fit under my Ambush, and the Scorchin (box) would fit above it.  What I'm aiming for with the Absolute is like a compliment to both my Classic and Ambush.  I'd like it to basically be a stronger Classic.  My Classic is very smooth and easy through the heads, but once it revs up, it has one of the hardest arcs I've ever seen (the reaction shape is just like every other Absolute I've seen, and just like the one on the Scorchin video, but the Classic revs up later).

Unless I had a better suggestion, I was going to drill it the same as my Classic.  As for the Scorchin, lol, I was probably going to drill it the same as my Ambush.  I like the reaction I'm getting, it's smooth and strong and keeps rolling.  I don't want something that's going to set or flatten out.

My PAP is 5 3/4ths over and 3/4ths up.  Stacked or pin over ring drillings with the cg not too far from my grip center have always worked better for me, but I've had some pin over bridge cg out balls do wonders for me too.  Nick, you know Brunswick stuff really well, so I was going to pick your brain on drilling options.  All I know, lol, is that cg out drillings don't work for me on the Zone line.  My Time Zone kinda flattened out on me, and so did my Strike Zone before I redrilled it.  I'm pretty versatile, and I can tell when the ball's not rolling good or I'm just not throwing it good, I'm usually able to read reactions really well, so I'm open to trying something different.  Should I just stick with the drillings I've already kinda picked out, or go a different direction?

It's hard to beat success!

I'm thinking the Absolute might be what you're looking for if it was shined, but I'd set it up so you don't *need* an x-hole. Reason being, you may need to tame the ball down because the core and cover are fairly stronger than the Ambush. Putting the X-hole on the axis would smooth it out downlane, putting a flare-reducing would weaken the overall reaction if it is too strong.

For the Scorchin', we have seen better results with the pin lower so far! The youngsters are eating up the 4-4.5" pins under the ring. Usually paired with a low x-hole, then can go coast to coast with it!

Thanks!  I'll probably try that drilling on the Scorchin.  I just drilled one for a friend, but it's hard to get a read on what his equipment does sometimes.  Lol, his PAP is 2 3/8ths over and an inch and a half up, 4x4 for him is a lefthanded stacked drilling, that was one of the more interesting layouts I've ever drilled.  How far should I kick the cg out?  Maybe a 4.5x4, or even 4.5x3.5?  With my PAP, that'd almost make the pin and cg stacked, and should leave me about 1 to 1 1/2 ounces of sideweight.  I have about 325-350 revs at 17.5 to 18 mph, and I'm pretty sure I'd actually be able to use it on a couple of my leagues.  Ambush goes just a tad long sometimes.

My Scorchin' is drilled 3 3/8" stacked, right of pin. That drilling is great for me. Good predictable ball reaction, and great carry. The ball is way stronger than I tought it'd be. My Strike Zone is a great ball, and this is even better. But, pin right of ring drillings work very well for me.
