Mastermind Scholar vs Brute Strength
« on: January 21, 2016, 08:21:37 PM »
Looking to update my arsenal as some equipment is getting tired. I bowl league primarily on wood which can be a flood or completely burnt depending on the week. I have burnt covered with a super trooper and a Tropical Breeze but I'm looking to replace some of my medium oil equipment.

My question is whether the Mastermind Scholar and the Brute Strength will be complementary to each other? I like pearl balls but find the snap hook leaves me with less than ideal carry on occasion. Both balls are used with very low games so I'm thinking of picking up both if they won't overlap each other. Although I like buying balls new the plummeting canadian dollar is making that harder to do.

Thanks

Heard good reviews on the brute but not so much on the scholar, hence the brainic release.

The Brute Strength is an everyday ball.  Being symmetrical also tends to be more forgiving when I'm not on my "A game".  In my opinion it's underpriced for what it does.

The Scholar was a little more hot/cold for me.  I loved the colors, but found myself drawn to more "stable" reaction balls, especially when the lanes transitioned.

I agree with Lane's assessment of both balls in that they would compliment each other. The Brute strength would be a good 1st ball out of the bag and will have a smooth arcing type of motion. And, the Mastermind Scholar is more of a skid / snap type of reaction and would be best used for when the lanes transition and you need to move left and throw it right.
