No Love...
« on: January 03, 2006, 12:31:26 PM »
Shot 299 with the Time Zone in our youth sport league,
but i was thinking...i am the only one ive ever seen to
even use the Time Zone.  I know the ball is old now, but
even when it first came out, no one had it...

Its a great ball, did it not sell well?  Great cover
and it started the new zone line the B uses now. I
never saw it on TV or in any of the regionals down
here.  Why didn't more use it?

It was fairly popular here.  I loved mine on shorter wet/dry conditions.  They're hard to find now in 16lbs.  I think I'd love another.

Same reason as the ambush.  It didn't hook the lane, and it wasn't a "go 55 feet than turn 90 degrees" type of ball.  Joe Bowler has no interest in control balls.

What I know about it is that the Time Zone (and also the follwing Warp Zone) were/are not very popular because of the high RG core, whcih was Brunswick first venture into asymmterical cores after the Phantoms some years ago.
Then, the PK18 coverstock (with particle in the WZ) was not a step forward in technology, and the colors were quite dull, too. You could get the same performance with Monster or BVP balls for less money. I have only seen a few of these around here, and not in the hands of experienced high level players.
I guess the introduction of Activator to the asy. Zones and the lower RG core since the ZC were the crucial steps forward for the line's success?

For a lot of people that have a higher tracks and were more on the side of the ball, would end up hitting the fingers or the thumb on 4x4 layouts. The higher RG core wasnt friendly for the spin to win crowd.

You gotta also remember these were out while the Inferno, Blazing Inferno, and Raging Inferno's were on every rack in the center.  Nobody wanted to throw a "Zone" anymore.  Infernos were the hottest sellers.
